Cheshire saw this challenge as one that would require great thought put into it, so she decided that it would be best to plan before hitting the river. With the piranhas, she decided that she’d need a spear, or something else that was sharp and on a stick, to not only keep them away, but to allow herself to kill them and then throw them away from her boat and have other piranhas chase after those piranhas that were already slain and would be a much easier meal to dig into. She’d also probably hit other types of fish as well, so she’d add them to the mix of distraction food. She’d ended up making a two head spear, by taking on head of another spear and jamming it onto the other, and adding nails, and other spikey, loose metal on to the spear, so that when piranhas tried to attack the
Cheshire also made a grapple hook with a rope and loose metal, to help stir in the rapid waters. She makes a shield to defect the Mask Natives darts. To make it, she used a box and plastic from cutting up the plastic bottles and nailing them together. She grabbed sturdy, wooden paddles for the rowing. She also saw it necessary to modify the cardboard boat, making it story with the crates and boxes in the shed was she main goal, adding some plastic on the boat as well to prevent any damage being inflicted on the boat by other players, or by the water and piranhas bitting, was also her strategy in the preparation period before hitting the waters of the river.
Any other forms of defense and sabotage came from a bow and arrows or a slingshot, just so if her strength dwindled while rowing, she could still very well damage another contestants boat, or scare off the naives when she ended up in their part of the forest. She also tried to get an automoblie engine on the boat to work the whole way, but that didn’t end up lasting long when she was in the river, only half way through on the first segment, so we when on rowing manually. So, that was the beginning of the first segment, now that the engine was gone, the piranhas came out to feed. She allowed the boat to be carried by the speed of the river, instead of rowing, for the most part, in the piranha infestated waters, to make sure they didn’t ruin any of its integrity. Though the movement of the spear did certainly make the boat go forward a bit faster from time to time. The spear lost a bit of loose metal, and the one of the arrow heads, but that didn’t compremise anything, as she was able to get through the first segment.
The second segment was definitely the most challenging part on the river. She had to always be looking ahead. She had to be able to process where there might be hidden rocks under the water, and be able to avoid them. This was the most difficult part to her, being able to see and comprehend where they were and how to effectively avoid them. Rowing was tough, and the river seemed to be trying to take her paddles deliberately, but she managed to keep a strong grip. The grabble hook was used on big rocks and trees next to the river to turn and stir the boat, wasn’t as affected as she hoped it be, but it worked well enough to keep herself from being swiped away from the raging rapids. It was by far the fastest part in the journey. This was also when she tried to sabotage other contestants, distracting them with arrows and rocks when she’d stopped to rest on the rocks that would stick out of the river. This was the most taxing part that took away a lot of her energy.
The third and final segments was also easy going like the first segment, but she had to be on a look for the Natives. She also took this as another opportunity to sabotage other contestants before they got to the finish line before her. She used her shield to not only deflect the incoming darts, but to collect them and then throw them at the other contestants as well who were not on her new team. She also shot arrows at the natives to distract them so she could row faster as she went along towards the finish line. She also attempted to use the grapple hook to trip up the natives along side all her rowing. In the end, she made it to the finish line and felt she had done well in this challenge.
