Description
Searching...Search complete: Opening topic: StarSpire.
Synopsis:
Completed in the year 3782, the StarSpire was constructed as a last defense against the alien race, the Bethracti. It also serves as a haven for humans that wish to evade the Bethracti's path of destruction.
Dimensions (Approximate):
Total Height: 21,000 Kilometers
Outer Rings' Diameter: 11,000 Kilometers
Outer Rings' Circumference: 35,000 Kilometers
Inner Rings' Diameter: 8,500 Kilometers
Inner Rings' Circumference: 27,000 Kilometers
Statistics> Population:
The StarSpire was created by razing 3 remote planets of their resources, resulting in its colossal size. This allows a carrying capacity of about 20 billion humans. The atmospheric pressure is simulated to mimic Earth's, as most of the ship's inhabitants are accustomed to earthlike planets. The entire ship sports extremely heavy shields, so as to protect the inhabitants of the hundreds of cities that coat the surface of the StarSpire.
Statistics>Ship>General:
The StarSpire is an Exodus/World Ender-class capital ship. It moves through space by micro-gravitational manipulation. This method utilizes the ship's gravitational field to propel itself from molecules that are emitted from the center of the ship. While the ship is extremely large, its architecture minimizes the effect of its gravitational pull on planets. However, close proximity to a planet does result in unusual seismic activity and abnormal tides. This is rarely a problem, because the StarSpire is not usually steered close to planets that are not intended to be destroyed. For long distance travel, it uses a massive warp drive. This must be used in the absolute vacuum of space, as the warp's size can suck in objects as large as stars. These objects would then be projected at faster-than-light speeds at the StarSpire on the other end of the warp, causing moderate to severe damage.
Statistics>Ship>Weapon Systems and Defenses:
The StarSpire's main weapon is its World Ender Complex at the center of the ship. It composed of a contained, highly gravitational field, coupled with a magnetic component that rips out the cores of nearby planets when activated. In addition, its arsenal includes 40,000,000 Anti-Spacecraft missile bays, 600,000 standard nuclear bombs launchers, 1000 heavy pulse turrets, 500 capital sustained laser turrets, 50 tactical mass drivers, and other weapons. One weapon that is rarely used is its tactical EMP pulse. The pulse is emitted from every part of the ship, and tends to blow away small stars and short out the electric utilities of entire star systems. The best defense of the StarSpire is its shields. They are designed so that the StarSpire could go through a star and exit the other side with the shields still intact.
Statistics>Ship>Self-Destruct:
In the event of imminent destruction, the StarSpire has a final weapon. The containment field that surrounds the gravitational field in the World Ender Complex can be disabled. This would cause StarSpire to effectively implode, absorbing everything within a 30,000,000 kilometer radius. The containment field takes about 1 hour to disable, allowing humans to escape through the warp pods on the ship.

I love it. strange but there is something very human about such a structure and how our species would go if fighting to the death. the clean lines simple colors give this work an elegance and power

meh, small Scifi authors made much bigger objects spreading havoc and destruction troghout universe. But it's quite good work, i like it.

now that's an computer interface I'd want to have. I'm assuming its a hologram monitor..
Nice specs. if this is where we get to in 1700 years, things will definitely have gotten interesting. going through a star and coming out alive to tell about it would be fun

It's actually a hard light physical manipulation projector.

sounds like the forerunner technology of the Halo uni
any idea on how it would work? I don't imagine we could integrate touch sensors onto beams of light, making them seemingly 'hard', so I think it would have to have sensors and emitters above and below the display to sense a break in the flow when you touch something, but keep everything above your finger still in place because the above emitter is flashing the same thing. Then it would calculate the position of your finger via timing of the light that returns from reflecting off your finger, then make the appropriate action as to what you 'clicked' on.
we should look into the technology for this. it might work.

Actually this technology draws more from the concept of the Mass Effect universe, but with a more expanded explanation. Quantum physics are paramount in this era. "Hard light" was a development that utilized the ability to manipulate elements on a molecular level. In a standard hard light projector, photoluminescent particles are emitted in a gaseous form, then frozen by near-absolute zero temperatures. This happens in less than a second. Then, in the next part of that second, the frozen pieces are suspended in the air using mass manipulation technology that also part came from advancements in quantum physics. Finally, a small amount of light is shone on those particles, causing them to retain and shine their own light, due to their photoluminescence. Then you have a nice floating piece of light to touch and whatnot. It's not actually the light you're touching, just the light-reflecting particles. It's just easier to call it "hard light" than it is to call it "Suspended Photoluminescent Particles."

hm
I haven't played that game, so I wouldn't really know
that's a lot more scifi tho. last time I checked quantum physics was just as confusing as ever (wave function collapse!) and even tho we've come within thousandths of 0 kelvin, its been in labs, not in the air above my keyboard
but I see how the concept could work. Its like the experiments done with strobe lights and falling water. the strobe on the stream of water gives the illusion of a single floating drop of water, and they can even make it look like it is dropping in reverse by varying the strobe speeds. That could pretty easily translate to 3D graphics using streams of luminescent molecules instead of streams of water. but a similar effect could be achieved with a smoke machine and a heck of a lot of lasers
[/proud of it]

O.o
That's just so great, I like the detail and the colours.
It also looks really realistic and nice.

Halo?
Anyways, I'm stunned by the amount of detail....
and I mean the design is elegant and could strike fear into the heart of anyone, love the fact that you gave the numbers on how big it is....
Oh and this could be a great menu for a game, you know where it spins and opens or something ;D

Wow. Just, wow. Not only is it incredibly detailed, but the specs, and all of it's dimensions are terrifically realistic. If I were an enemy and I saw this thing, I'd pull all of my forces out of the galaxy.

Lol thanks.
I'm not too fond of fighting planet-sized objects either.
