Nice piece ! The canvas board gives it this ancient-looking texture, which adds to the realistic feel of the painting.

(Oh, and Richelieu belongs to my favorite historical figures, so it's refreshing to see him in a different garb than his usual red robes)

The costumes in the series are quite anachronistic...but, as you say, a bit more interesting than just cardinal's red robes.

I recognized your art right away, Obsidian! Gorgeous work on the shiny satin and velvet textures of the costume. I love the way the green of the background brings out the green eyes! (I think I really need to check out this show when I have the time...)

Thank you very much.  I'm not sure exactly what shade his eyes actually are...I looked at photos but couldn't really tell...so I made them greenish to go with the background.

Thank you for noticing the difference in material texture, I tried to do that, so I'm really glad it seemed to work.

(The show is very enjoyable.  Give it a couple of episodes to hit its stride and then it starts getting quite addictive.)

Yeah, don't know why I wrote Duc instead of Cardinal initially...Must be a throw-back to my youth and reading the Denis Wheatley series starring the Duc de Richlieu
