Shadow is an enigma, I never knew how long he'd stick with Sabin. Then there is his daughter with which he has no direct interaction with. Even his possible deaths are uncertain. Perhaps the Memento ring keeps him alive.

He always stayed with me in the Sabin quest, meaning I didn't know he COULD leave, but the most recent time I played it he left right after Doma and I was short-staffed for the Phantom Train. It sucked. :<

God, I loved Shadow and Interceptor way too much.  He was the character that MADE the ninja cool for me as a child.  Every ninja that came after, they were compared to Shadow, and most were found lacking.  My first time through the game, I didn't know I was suppose to wait on the floating continent, so I never saw him again.  That hurt me more than you know.

And interceptor.  He was a dog that actually DID something in a game!  Every time he appeared, he either took a hit for his master, or 1HKOed an enemy.  Things were always awesome with Interceptor around!

And he saved you from a fire by slicing through it. Because that's how fire works!

...Okay, they were Bombs, but it looked funny in the little cutscene.

Shadow and Interceptor, best of friends!!! Good to know they'll always have each other! ^_^ Until a bug activates in game, causing you to lose Interceptor forever. ;_;

What is this?!

Rippler, eh? I'm staying far away from that spell. Hopefully it's the only thing that does it.

He's the Aerith of Final Fantasy VI

Um, you just have to wait for him on the Floating Continent, no matter what the timer says.  You kept talking like a huge FF6 fan, so I kinda assumed you knew.

I meant save him in the ENDING.
I did saved him on Floating Continent.
I meant saving him in KEFKA'S TOWER.
I thought you were a huge FF6 fan, so you could understand what i mean.

Shadow makes himself disappear in the tower.  That is not a definite death.  It is thus, open to interpretation.  I choose to think that Shadow found his own way out, thus being cheated of a final rest once more, only to wander aimlessly in the reborn world.  Which is, potentially, a fate worse than death for one who is weary of living.

Love these two, even if Shadow's kinda subpar in battle, I still use him every chance I get. <3

And now, I've earned my commenting fee. So long...

I can't really complain about any character being subpar when you get the Magicite and can craft them however you want. Same deal with FF7 (and FF8 to a much larger extent). It's like... dude, they're all the same. Well, unless you want magic. But all the physical characters do physical things very physically. That's right. I AM A WORDSMITH.

Indeed, character spells and stats are basically completely customizable between characters. So it really comes down to equipment options and special abilities. Shadow's got a decent ability (throwing stars and scrolls are good enough to make Throw viable), but his equipment selection is pretty bad.

It comes down to that but it doesn't really matter, unless you're fighting... like, the strongest enemy in the game and you need to minmax things. Otherwise everyone is completely serviceable in any situation. Which is why FF4 and others like it are a little more interesting when a character is forced to be a certain way. Ironic how something less complex can be more difficult.

That said, Shadow doesn't have any sort of special weapon for himself does he? I think the ultimate dagger is the Zwill Crossblade or whatever it's called and is specific to Locke; that glowing thing I drew him holding. But Shadow's best weapon is......... Thief's Knives??

Shinbufuman In reply to ObstinateMelon [2015-12-01 07:33:41 +0000 UTC]

I LOVE to minmax things! But I do like when characters aren't all able to be customized to max.

Shadow has a bunch of ninja blades that are unique to him. His strongest one is pretty neat, having a respectable attack power while also occasionally procing a Stop effect. The weapon is alright, really, but being a fragile ninja character, he's limited to mostly light armors and shields.

Keyword: mostly. I went and factchecked this shit, and found out he can wear all the Genji equipment and some high-level shields (the Force and Aegis shields in particular), so his equipment is mostly only a problem in the World of Balance (or if you want someone else to wear the Genji stuff).

FYI Zwill Crossblade is only in the GBA-exclusive postgame dungeon, as I recall. Shadow has a weapon there too, called Oborozuki (in fact, everyone gets a unique weapon from there except Gau, who gets a unique helmet).

So THAT'S how Interceptor intercepts!  He always jumps in front of you with a "TING!" and there's this crossed-blades thing in front of him.  He's got a knife!  It all makes sense now!

ObstinateMelon In reply to alexx [2015-12-01 00:49:11 +0000 UTC]

I didn't even remember the ting. I wonder if that's why I subconsciously did this.

It is the year of the dog! Like with Fallout, and the dog in MGS5 literally attacking with a knife in its mouth. Maybe I was just influenced instead.
