Description
Please click here to view the image on a black background -- you will see more shadow detail. After only having slept 2 hours and driving 90 km to the coast, it seemed like sunrise was going to be an epic fail, as the entire eastern sky was covered with clouds. I saw the pre-dawn cirrus light up in crimson splendour, but, I was missing the main event.
Shortly after sunrise, the clouds gave way to a wonderful display of pristine first light.
Presented here, is a dynamic scene where waves reach for a rocky moss-covered shoreline while a halo adorns our precious star.
Please note that this image hasn't been touched up in Photoshop -- this is directly from Canon's Digital Photo Professional software. I don't have time at the moment (backlog of weddings!) to be processing images through completion. Having said that, in my biased opinion, this stands on its own without requiring further processing treatment. The three stop hard step filter saved my backside that morning. I love my filters.

This is a beautiful piece. It captures the serenity and special glow which comes in the early morning and the halo adds a special quality to the sky. There's a great balance of sky, sea and moss covered rocks and I like that you've captured the movement of the waves rather than the long exposure effect often seen with water.
I agree - it doesn't need retouching at all. Thanks for sharing it

This is a superb image. The detail you've held in the moss on the rocks absolutely makes the image.
