Description
Edit: stoked at my fifth Daily Deviation. Thank you so much (Anoya) for featuring me, and (TimberClipse), (BokehLight), and (Miguel-Santos) for suggesting the image for a Daily Deviation. One of my favourite places in New Zealand, is beautiful Lake Matheson.
On favourable mornings, the reward for your early morning hiking aspirations is a crystal clear and calm lake offering pristine reflections of the alpine spectacle before your eyes.
Not the most conducive cloud cover formation for a landscape image (covering Mount Cook wholesale), but, after a failed attempt the morning prior, I was thankful for the fire in the sky this second morning's attempt.
This is an image from my spring 2011 campaign of the South Island.

The sharpness of this photo combined with the rich and vivid colors immediatly attracts the eye. The contrast is perfect and the draknes of the mountain creates some great negative space that accentuates the red of the sky. The fog really as to the mood of the photo as well. The intensity of the color of the sky is also well balanced with the stillness and quietude of the water.
One suggestion I would have is to crop out the bottom third of this photo to break the symmetry caused by the reflections. The reault would be a neat wide panorama.
An excelent photo!

This photo is so stunning and unique that I fear any suggestion would detract from what you already have. Its photos like this I consider the holy grail of photography. When I first viewed this, my initial reaction was that this was a painting, due to the symetry being so perfect, and the reflection a little too crisp. It was only after studying it that I realized what a truly unique shot this was. A true painting of light. Somehow you have acheived the perfect balance of light and contrast, silouette and detail. I'm truly in awe of this work.

I think this is one for the portfolio. The clarity is astounding and is the first thing I noticed. The mirror image on the lake is what got my attention. This lead my eye to the upper portion where the snow covered mountains contrasted very nicely with the sunrise and burning clouds. The hanging fog is even more candy for the eye. The opposite shore with the smaller trees is a great Rorschach hint , but Rorschach did not do color. The single red against the other muted colors works very well. In all honesty I think the lack of a large imposing mountain add to the image.
You captured the essence of this very well. The exposure in impeccable with great detail in the lower tones. Very nicely done.
The only nit I might add would be the symmetry. I have to wonder if a shift up or down would destroy the perfect symmetry or would it add anything. Either way it is nit picking.
Over all the image is very pleasing and invokes a emotional response. For me it is βI gotta get out more!β The capture of the lighting is very elegant. The blend of the textures is very good.. It is an image that would look good on any wall.
Nicely done.
Marty

such magic. So wow. Much talent. - doge but in all seriousness, it's a beautiful piece of work it actually makes me want to go camping (lets hope I last more than 5 minutes this time) I love it. It captivates the magic of the universe. I especially love art with no human beings in it, human beings are the cause of destruction of wonders like this. Without humans, imagine what kind of world we could have. This- peaceful, beautiful, heaven. It's a wonderland. I have to give you a lot of credit. You're the type of artist that makes other artists jealous.

You have asked for a critique, so I will not tell you what a great picture this is. It is, indeed, a very great picture.
How could it be better? I think it is too symmetrical. I hope you also considered aiming the camera 30 degrees to the left and 30 degrees to the right. If you did so, and decided that straight was the only way to go, then well done, you got a great picture. If you did not do at least that, I would beg you to do so with your next picture. The difference between a good picture and a fabulous picture is sometimes nothing more than a few degrees of angle. Also, I do not know the mountains of New Zealand. Could you have hiked partway around the lake for a different angle? Possibly not -- it is sunset and the light is fading. Bottom line: almost any photograph can be improved with better composition. You have a talent; I hope you are willing to develop it through hard work. Good luck.

This picture contains that certain "magic" that some great photographies have. Usually, a cloudy sky and post-twilight lighting are disadvantageous for photography. You managed to iron out this liability and turned it into an asset. By capturing the most opportunate cloud formation and considering the margins of your frame.
The sky's redness and the mountain's white are beautifully captured. The reflection in the water still is the cream of the crop. One could argue that the colors aren't very appealing, but that's a matter of taste. Still, one can almost feel the cold climate and appreciate the atmosphere. To capture such calm waters is moderately difficult. You were on the right time at the right spot with the right tool. Well done!

I have to say this is a beautifully well done picture of something so majestic. You captured the reflections perfectly and the mist in the background create a feeling of suspense and mystery to the scenery. It kind of give me a spook in a somewhat good way.
The fact that this is a picture surprise me - it look so different that I expected photos would be, but then I'm only a beginner photographer. Overall, it's one of the great piece you had taken. I say well-done on the photography, Octane! You are an amazing photographer and keep it up!

Friends, Romans and country men, lend me your ears. I have not come to criticise this shot, but to praise it!
It is fantastic!
I will now retire to my room and write a song. I will call it 'Smoke on the water, fire in the sky'...
I already have the riff in my head.
Respect from South Africa.
