Description
The magnificent Stirling Falls at Milford Sound.Stirling Falls is nestled at the base of a mountain called Elephant Trunk which faces another mountain called The Lion. At 151 metres in height, these falls are three times the height of Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls trumps this with its width, however.
In this image, I have presented the base of the falls. The wispy shape of the falling water resembles ghostly figures suspended in animation, and the impact of the spray then creates the illusion of broken glass on the lake. Keen-eyed observers may discern shapes resembling faces, or skulls, in the mist; a tortuous ghostly face screams out in eternal agony as cloaked and hooded faceless figures look on at the spectacle before them.
I got sprayed from head to toe in the process of making this photograph. It was definitely worth the slight discomfort.

Edit: stoked at my second Daily Deviation. Thank you so much (^kkart ) for featuring me.

cypher-neo and DAnnsCreations,
Thank you so much for the critique and the lovely comment, DAnnsCreations.
I won't be submitting any more prints through deviantART. No-one is willing to pay for what these works are worth, and, on top of that, the artist sees a fair chunk of their profit go straight to deviantART. It's not a criticism, as I understand this place is set up to make money, however, I will not support it.
If anyone is interested in a print, they can message me privately or leave a message here. I do my own prints on a high-end Epson professional series printer using the best archival papers and inks.
Regards,
H

"of ghosts and glass". That phrase is incredibly familiar, but I can't put a finger on it.

afo,
It was the first thing that came into my head. I was chatting on MSN with my neighbour and when I mentioned what I thought the title should be, she just said, "Perfect". I stuck with it.
As for whether it's been used by anyone else before, I have no idea.

Lewis,
No, the title isn't from a poem or the like. It was just the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the finished image.

Lewis,
Thank you, for both compliments.
I have another shot in my gallery, titled, A Moment Forever which, I think, is even better than this image -- if you're interested.

An amazing photo - I'd have gotten saturated too if it meant seeing both the magnificent waterfall and your stunning capture of it. I love the title too - very emotive. There's the start to a story here somewhere methinks!

Sez,
I really want to go back and do it again and see if I can pull something else off. I still have several images of this fall that are yearning to be processed. Ah, if only time allowed.
As always, you rock.

Hum

There are shots I come across from time to time that make me stop and think "I wish I could have been there to take this myself". This is one of them, it's a beautiful shot in what looks to be an amazing place.
