Description
The magnificent Stirling Falls at Milford Sound.Stirling Falls is nestled at the base of a mountain called Elephant Trunk which faces another mountain called The Lion. At 151 metres in height, these falls are three times the height of Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls trumps this with its width, however.
In this image, I have presented the base of the falls. The wispy shape of the falling water resembles ghostly figures suspended in animation, and the impact of the spray then creates the illusion of broken glass on the lake. Keen-eyed observers may discern shapes resembling faces, or skulls, in the mist; a tortuous ghostly face screams out in eternal agony as cloaked and hooded faceless figures look on at the spectacle before them.
I got sprayed from head to toe in the process of making this photograph. It was definitely worth the slight discomfort.

arthika,
Absolutely.
I can only imagine how this must be after some very, very heavy rainfall.
I mean, that place is one of the wettest places on earth, with up to 8 metres of rain a year. That is just insane.

H

seraphRo,
Thank you.
I'd like to think it was a unique moment. Who knows, every fraction of a second of every day, that waterfall must be putting on some other kind of show that someone else could be capturing at 1/100th of a second at a time.

H

You must definitely go to New Zealand. The entire country can be thought of as a massive nature reserve and wildlife park. It's just stunning.

Lweeling,
Well, I hope you can make it there some day.
I note you are from France. I love France (or what I've seen of it, anyway). I have a couple of images in my gallery of the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe. I really look forward to going back there one day and exploring it further.
And, thanks, again.

So this is the place where the dead go on to heaven or hell...
I really need to make a travel list to be able to plan getting there some day.

Narkya,
Totally!
As I say to everyone who speaks to me about New Zealand, all I can say is that if you're remotely capable of travelling, and can afford it (New Zealand is very cheap to travel in!), just pack your bags and go. It is a place that will become very endearing to you and you will want to return again, and again, and again.
Thanks!

H

I am planning to do some travelling once I've finished my bachelor next year. I'm still not exactly sure where I want to go, but then again, it's still quite some time ahead.
And even if New Zealand is cheap to travel in, it's not exactly cheap to fly almost halfway around earth to get there...

Narkya,
I understand your dilemma. This is the same issue afflicting me -- it inhibits my travel opportunities to the US/Canada. I've backpacked all across Europe and, unfortunately, that will have to do for the time being.
One day, though!
All the best!

Limaria,
It is an absolutely stunning place, is it not?
I will be returning in April and in November, to capture more of this magic place. When ones been there, they can completely understand why New Zealand is referred to as "God's country". It is heaven.
Thank you.
