Description First appearance: Banjo-Tooie (2000)

Mr. Patch from ”Banjo-Tooie”. He is a huge inflatable dinosaur that serves as one of the main attractions at the theme park Witchyworld. Residing inside a circus tent, the ”show” involves Banjo and Kazooie fighting this gargantuan plaything, while he shoots explosive beachballs and summons a boxing glove at the ground.

Mr. Patch is certainly one of the most entertaining bosses ever. There is something very special about the combination of a brightly coloured (even by ”Banjo-Kazooie” standards) and cutesy inflatable toy, and the fact that it’s outright enormous and puts up a Godzilla-like fight against the duo. I also love how he literally coughs up explosive beachballs to shoot, and of course, the… unfortunate placement of his plug.
The battle itself is properly hard - it's not too hard to guess his weak points, but aiming on him while in air can be quite frustrating, so it's not too easy either.
The music for the battle is one of the most iconic soundtracks for the franchise, and is hilarious and awesome at the same time, capturing Mr. Patch’s character perfectly.

Thanks to the game’s cartoony style, this one was really easy to draw. It also helps that there are lights everywhere in the boss arena in-game, so the shading didn't need to be very distinct. Ironically, the hardest thing was probably the shading at first, as I'm used to have a determined light source in my drawings. But by putting the darkest shadows at the places the light most likely doesn't get to (like inside of mouth, underside of feet) things got a lot easier.

(As a Swede, a fun thing I observed is that Mr. Patch bears a close resemblance to the dragon mascot for Swedish children’s show ”Bolibompa”, except that the ”Bolibompa” dragon isn’t remotely as intimidating, not covered in patches, and is lacking that awfully placed plug.)

I dunno about you, but tbh, I always thought that Mr. Patch was(and still is)just too cute to even BE a boss. I mean, the only real reason you end up fighting him is because Kazooie had to shoot her beak off and antagonize him in the process......Then again, that's just meCool picture!

I agree! Really, all the bosses in the game (except Mingy Jongo and Gruntilda) are only fighting the duo either because they are testing their skills, provoked by Kazooie, or simply following orders. Mr. Patch takes the cake though, by being so reluctant to fight B&K. And he is so cute and harmless-looking that you almost forget that he actually can be a dangerous opponent

And thank you!!
