Description
How do you see me?How do I see me?
I used to find my scars ugly and repulsive. Fat purple slugs on my skin that wouldn't leave me alone. People would stare and ask about them. Total strangers would look at them in disgust, and that made me feel disgusting.
I felt like they defined how other people thought of me; If my scars were ugly, then so was I.
It's taken a long long time, but now I see them for what they are. A part of me. They may not be pretty, but it doesn't make me ugly, and anyone who truly loves me will be able to see past them and find the beauty on the inside, and maybe even find some in them.
There will be no more gloves, no more makeup. I won't hide them for fear of other people's oppinion anymore. I can be beautiful too. Perfect even.
This peice is completley and utterly inspired by ^StJoan , who's poem Scars [link] brought me to tears with the realisation that I didn't HAVE to be ugly in my own mind, that as a part of me, my scars could be beautiful too.
It hit me like a brick to the head, I'd never thought of it that way before, and I was amazed that I hadn't.
Even now, it still makes me cry, it hits that close to the heart.
So this peice is half thankyou to St Joan, and half declaration. I was so inspired by her, that I had to try and inspire people myself, and art is my way how.
I hope I have even half as much of an impact on you as she had on me.
Please, right now, go and read the poem that started this all [link]

Materials:
My new prismacolour pencils!!! My parents bought 120 of them for me for chrissie! best gift EVER!!
A3 watercolour paper, it's a bit too textured for these new soft pencils, so I'll remember that for next time.
Reference is me! With a bit of photographic self portrait advice from *homicidal-mistress , as I fail at photography. it took about 150 shots to get that one, and even then the top of my head and the back of my head missed the frame!
The entire thing is an experiment, new pencils, new perspective, strange photography, and a new colour scheme, not to mention a new outlook.
I can't keep away from symbolism, but this time it's not so crowded, and I'm not going to explain it to you.
I AM THINKING ABOUT SELLING PRINTS OF THIS WORK IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED!

thats a very beautful drawing nyaa, i absolutely love how soft u made her hair look and the eyes is very nice aswell i like the detail in them, the hand is simply truly beautful, the coloring and shades are nice too X3
the flowers are really pretty too :3
Ppl who stare at others in disgust just because of their scars(or any other difference) is completely and utterly stupid, physical appearance never matters! all that matters is whats on the inside! nyaaaaaa
our differences is what make us all unique and special and thats why we shouldnt dislike our faults (oops! i seem to be rambling again, my apologies )

hehe, don't worry about rambling! I don't mind!
My favourite part about making art is seeing how other people respond to my work, and watching how it has made them think. Rambling is a good thing! Thankyou for your lovely words, I'm really glad you like it!

I love this. You are beautiful, scars and all. As a former (knock on wood) self-inflicter, I can relate all too well. I've come to realize that every scar tells a story. Perhaps a mistake made, but each one a learning experience. We shouldn't be ashamed - they're a part of us. Thank you for reminding me.

:blah:inner beauty is within the eye of the beholder. <3 if u see urself beautiful, u r beautiful. Scars are apart of who we are, no matter how we got them. EVERYONE has them, they can show them on the surface or on the heart, it doesnt matter. "We are all connected by the scars we share" is a saying i made. Scars prove that we went through pain or something hurtful and we were strong enough to get past it and learn from it. EVERYONE has been hurt at least a couple hundred times in their life so if they look at you as if your ugly, then they havent looked at themselves well enough. :blow kiss:

Excellent work, and your story really touched me, because I'm pretty sure that a lot of people, myself included, can relate.
I recently got my first tattoo over some of mine, and just that small thing has made a world of difference for me.
It's about feeling good with who you are, not what others see from you.

Right on hon!
I'm glad you have found a way to cover yourself in beauty! I love tats
How did the ink take to the scars? I was always told that it wouldn't work properly and that there would be big faded spots.
Do you have a photo I would be able to check out? I'd love to see it!
I'm so happy that people can relate to this, I was a bit worried I hadn't expressed myself right, but the response is just amazing. Thankyou for your lovely words.

Well I don't think they'd take too well to big keloid scars, but I looked up tattoos on scars, and for the most part, they take pretty okay.
These tattoos are just over like, some of my smaller ones.
But they're looking good.
I only got them just over a week ago.
I'll let you know how it goes.
For me now, when I look at myself in the mirror, I don't just see my scars, I see these works of art on my body.

Oh man, thanks for replying back to me, otherwise i would have forgotten!
They're looking amazing.
Its' a little blotchy, but that's okay with me, it's still prettier to me than the scars. They turned out well.
I recently got a cover up tat on my chest of a sort of scar-tat thing I had there from a while ago, and it covered up really nicely.
It's also by some scars and some stretchmarks (hurrah, another reason I used to hate my skin) and it looks amazing.
