I did this as a test for my new Intuos 4 and Photoshop CS4. Took about a day (6 hours or so), reffed from Empire's Sept '09 cover.I love my new stuff!
Background texture is from an old ImagineFX dvd.
Anyway let me know what you think.

This is AMAZING!!! Sherlock Holmes has to be one of my top favorites of fictional characters. This is probably the best fan art of the new movie I've seen yet. Keep up the great work!

looks great,love the light and shadows play and the colours as well... the only complaint I'd make is the upper middle of the forehead where the hair should meet the skin (and the shadows)looks a tiny bit off somehow...but that's really a minor complaint... :/
did you have a reference photo for this?
oh, and btw, I'd kill for an Intuous 4 (what size is yours, I think Wacom has switched to S, M, L and possibly XL?)

No haven't seen the trailer ... will keep an open mind.
But I predicted they would cast Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft ... she "looks and could act the part".
I will have to keep an open mind ... he was the right actor for Chaplin ... but not the look for Sherlock.
