Description
Someone went through my older pictures and singled out one of my marker drawings and suggested that I do something with them again. I'll admit it's been awhile since I did anything with the old prismacolors. I've also been having a lot of Adventure Time playing in the background as I draw.I think working in another person's style helps to figure out things that I wouldn't do otherwise. The looseness of the arms and weird contortions done on this show are some of the most fluid bits of animation I've seen outside of Ren and Stimpy. Usually, I'll draw a head shape and draw from there. On this one, I drew their whole bodies before putting in any details. That's something I really should do more often.
There's also the palette that I usually have when working on a marker piece. I figured I'd leave that in there, in case anyone was wondering. And last but not least, I posted a photo of the original inks on my Tumblr.

This is amazing! Your shading with the pris markers are wonderful. I can never manage to get them to work with me. The show is awesome and a great source for inspiration.

All you gotta do is draw very lightly with them. It works great and makes them work kinda like water colors.

Wait, you never planned out whole poses before doing the details? I know it's up to the individual to find thier own best method, but planning it all out first just works so much better for me. I usually start from the lower torso, figure out which way the top is gonna twist, and work out the leg positions and arms. Head is usually last. I find you can get some incredible variation working that way.
Also, like how the blue is blended and applied on Finn's shirt. I can't get my marker work to appear purposely sketchy like that.

haha, he looks like a butt. I'm just glad I got his eyes right. Apparently, I've been drawing the white parts of his eyes black all this time, and giving him horrendous anime eyes.

Heheh Somehow I think Jake would totally okay with his face looking like a butt, since he could make his butt look like his face! That's kinda the joy of shows like this where they embrace style difference between animators rather than try and nail everything down to model to the point it looks like a stiff 80's kids show. It's a wonderland for the fan art base to play in.
