Description
Thanks to some inspiration from 's gallery, it pushed me to do a three day project by going to the full length of trying to remember all the influences I now presently. It might not have everything from way into the future after I post this, but this is my honest look into my psyche.
If you're wondering why I have people I make diatribe statements about in my journal, it's due to them being people not mindless tools. My inspirations can have opinions just like I or anyone can.

Wow... That's a lot.
Now that I'm done typing down these names and items, it makes me think that my mind is a unstable carnival with a side of a grand guignol on one side, and a library on the other... I think.
Well, that's all I can think of right now, but as usual, I can never stop being influenced! Otherwise, why wouldn't i be a artist if I didn't?

I forgot to put and David Lynch in the list.

Yup! That guy's music is awesome. Tom Waits early music like "The Early Years" and "Closing Time" makes me think of his music.

The top half is my childhood. Disney, Ghibli, and Star Wars. Pretty normal childhood of any 90s kid actually, with the vhs tapes of the unaltered original trilogy while also watching the revamped versions in the theater.
I would have put Nightmare Before Christmas in the second row if it weren't for the fact that even though I first saw it in the theater when I was little, the film didn't impact me until in my early teens.
As you can see, Universal and Roger Corman horror films I watched in my childhood were much more of a impact on my than most of the animation I watched during the time, but even animation like Tenchi Muyo, Slayers, and Cutie Honey(the ones that I wasn't supposed to see at my age, but my uncle thought I was a mature five-year-old, he even let me play Dead Or Alive 2, he's a fun guy).
Before Lassiter obtained the faithful licensing, I saw Ghibli works from Fox and pre-Lassiter Disney(Fox did My Neighbor Totoro and Pre-Lassiter Disney did Kiki's Delivery Service).

wow, yeah I never like Nightmare Before Christmas when I was a kid, but then I like it after I grew bigger.
My Neighbor Totoro is a very funny movie, i love MEi very much
but my favorite *the most* is Spirited Away, have you watched it?
PS: you should watch "Grave of Fireflies" I almost cry when I watch it. It's so sad.

Yes, I have a lot of Ghibli's films. Including Spirited Away. Even when I was little I connected with Noface. A individual who didn't belong in places that corrupted him. Easily persuaded by the elements and then copying those elements to gain popularity(for better or worse).
Already watched Grave of the Fireflies a few months ago, but surprisingly, it didn't make me cry, just feel wistful(like Princess Mononoke).

lol you mean you were acting like no-face?
oh wow, I feel so sad when I watch it. Surprisingly, it was created by american animator, not a japanese animator.
I feel kinda boring when I watched Hayao's old movies. Princess mononoke was great but kinda boring in the middle. And the most boring for me is the "Nausicaa of Valey of the Wind" Have you watched it? I fast forward it so many times in half last scene.

I still kind of act like Noface, but for different reasons I can't really think of.
Only saw a scene or two of Nausica, but tended to miss it whenever it came on. My uncle might have a copy.

It's kinda boring. Because more talk and less action. What about Howl's Moving Castle? Have u watched it?

I have HMC myself(my uncle got me the Chinese edition which has the English and Japanese dub, he tends to get a lot of Chinese editions of different films for some reason). My favorite characters have to be Turnip Head and Calcifer. Maybe it's due to them not being human characters to begin with(well, more for Calcifer than Turnip).
π: 0 β©: 1
Cliffto In reply to Ohthehumanityplz [2011-05-27 07:30:14 +0000 UTC]
yeah the turnip man is amazing. But the novel and the movie is so different. Hayao change half of the plot and turned it from the original story. I like the novel better. Dianna Wynne Jones created it. She also created Chrestomanci series, which I ever drawn (the Tonino and Angelica picture). But Hayao still do amazing art with the castle itself

I actually own both the book and the film, so I like both of them in their own right, but it's a not a favorite of mine. Good reads, just not as a huge focus to me like Rosto's Mind My Gap is.

Cliffto In reply to Ohthehumanityplz [2011-05-28 14:57:17 +0000 UTC]
Well Chrestomanci and Howl's are different story. I don't have serious focus on Howl's either, but I'm a big fan of Chrestomanci. It is the book that inspired JK rowling to create Harry Potter.

π: 0 β©: 1
Ohthehumanityplz In reply to Cliffto [2011-05-29 09:05:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, one of my favorites was "N". It's a H.P. Lovecraft inspired tale about a man revisiting his memories of Ackerman's Farm with letters to his psychiatrist. In some ways, it reminds me of E.T.A. Hoffman's the Sandman in way of storytelling.
Another has to be the Cat from Hell(same short story collection). It's a favorite of my father's. Speaking of my father, he loves the more biographical book from King, Danse Macabre.

Thanks. I think the more I have influences, the more they make me go in a new direction as well as connections.
Due to Tom Waits and Terry Gillium, I found a new inspiration. His name is Rosto. His imagination of two men and the devil that chased them has given me new ideas like the people on the Influence board.

Whenever I want to laugh my bum off, I put the soundtrack on. There's points in the soundtrack that makes me feel the pain as the singer. Sadly, I wish Paul Williams finished that little ditty "Never thought I meet the Devil". Oh well...
It's a great film that anyone should watch once in their life. One of the interesting points to the film is that it shows the evolution of music and bands as the film goes on.
Also, Paul Williams is a great villain(his voice as Penguin backs that up).

Kind of like Micheal Medved, I'm a media crusader. Difference is that if something seems like it has sexuality in it, I'm not going to point and shake my finger at the object(like Suckerpunch, I like the film, but he hated it due to the "exploitation of the beautiful and oppressed women in a institution").

Yup, it's pretty big.
I don't know, maybe it's due to my mother being a Virgo.
She tends to want to bigger and better tasting things in life, while me and my father being Sagittariuses like the more laid back side of things(hence the picture of Sublime in there)... Like I said, I don't know why I like the things I do.

π: 0 β©: 1
Ohthehumanityplz In reply to ManiacalDude [2011-05-12 01:11:37 +0000 UTC]
Just take a pair of five boxes in one row and cut it out, then adjust the ratio/canvas height to 500 more inches/pixels. Keep doing so and copy the row you cutted out and keep adding. Remove the white areas and put the images underneath to get the right measurement.
Then you just repeat. It was simple but it took a while due to the long saving, hence why it took me three days to finish.

Oh! Thanks, I wanted to use that image of Satan due to the fact that it looked classical and broke away from the "heavy Metal" look to him. If I used Terry Gilliam's Mr. Nick, it would probably be too esoteric/obscure for people to understand why that devil. The reason why the Devil is in there for the first place was due to the fact that each representation is different(just like death), and with each interpretation comes with a different personality.
When I looked at the images on the Wikipedia entry, I thought it looked like the example of the early comic "A week of Kindness" from Understanding Comics, but when I looked at my copy, it turns out the name of that was actually Maxwell Earnest. I'll look at more work of Dore tomorrow, thanks for pointing him in my direction.
