IF you completely redraw, for instance, a Class 28 2-6-0 with a different color, is that considered recolor "original character?"

Preferably keep it a different class from something on Thomas. Otherwise the originality is lacking a bit.

Same situation pretty much. Only acceptable in some cases- such as The Flying Thistle.
And technically all of the J94 0-6-0's like 16 and Wilbert are related. Same design- but the workshop of origin may be different.
The way I see it- if you share a basis or a designer, you're related. I.E. Gordon and Spencer are cousins- Gordon is the A0, Spencer is an A4- both Greseley designs.
Bill and Ben are Bagnall saddletanks. You know who also was built by Bagnall? Oddly enough, DART of all engines.
Skarloey and Rheneas are Fletcher Jennings locos. So they have only somewhat of a relation to Whiff/Aerolite. The original Aerolite looked completely different to the X1 design we know today- and was built by Fletcher Jennings.
So yes, relationships like that are possible, but must be kept reasonable. It can't like an outlandish color and be labelled a "long lost twin" or whatever. Long lost twin could really only be used for engines that were privately preserved on the mainland- i.e. Flying Thistle. It's totally plausible that he is in fact Knight of the Thistle, albeit renamed, repainted and privately owned. Yes, Crimson isn't prototypical for an A1/A3, but it's not completely silly. I.E. many many years ago I had an OC that was really just a purple James with the number 74. The color has to look good on the engine for it to really work. It doesn't necesarily need to be accurate but it has to look good.

Woah, you've done your research! I don't know where to find this sort of information!

Oh believe me, I've been doing research on engines' basis for years. Gordon mentioned his cousin who went 125MPH in the RWS- that's of course Mallard- who also appeared in the Great Railway Show.
I've done a LOT of research on Aerolite, originally just out of a hatred for Whiff that I've since outgrown. Fascinating stuff.

I know what you mean. I like the "Sodor Dark Times" series and I wish people wouldn't steal the story itself but use the idea of a dark toned Thomas story to create their own.

I really hate how talentless hacks copy something that someone else made and try to pass it off as they're own or, worse, not know that they're doing wrong.
It's one thing to be inspired but it's another thing when you're blatantly stealing.

Well, from what I know, his drawings are freaky and he keeps bringing people down with his "false" criticism. Not to mention that he ruined my childhood with his sick fantasy.
