That's a frigging crime. I wish there were more appreciation for good, honest poetry. Then there would be more outlets for it in the publishing industry--or at least more well known outlets.
Unfortunately when mainstreamers think of poetry they usually remember romantic stanzas about flowers dated sometime in the eighteenth century, I think.
If they read more of yours, there might be more of a demand.

I'd like to chime in and say there are a ton of publishing outlets that feature good, honest poetry. Unfortunately, all the well known ones remain esoteric, to say the least, reserved for serious writers and the rare poetry aficionado that doesn't care for practicing the craft.
As far as the "romantic stanzas about flowers thing," I blame the school system for boring all their students with a bunch of old classical stuff that only a few would appreciate. They need to teach contemporary poetry first, poetry written in the language of our generation, before teaching the older stuff.
I don't see that changing any time soon (although Billy Collins is doing his thing with Poetry 180), so by the time high school is over, poetry is nothing but a nightmare they got over with, thus the decline in demand. Shit reality indeed.
