Clark Gable enlisted in the USAF in 1942 and was one of the few american celebrities who actually flew combat missons over Europe. Besides being a gunner on a bomber crew, he also was tasked with filming raids and missions for use in recruitment films for aerial gunners.

Hitler was a big fan of Gable's acting and offered a reward for whomever could capture and present Gable to him unscathed. He eventually reached the rank of Major and resigned his commission in 1947 because he was unable to fulfill his reserve officer duties.

He is best known for his leading part in 'Gone With The Wind' from 1939.
