Description To think there was actually a time when I did not understand how to use textures...
I've made this (not so small in the end) demonstration to show what using different textures can bring to the very same image.
Dedicated to sirius-sdz.deviantart.com/ naturally.

Just download one. In photoshop just add it to your projct ctrl+a ctrl+c. Now select that layer and set it to ex 'soft light'.

I do this all the time, just with brushes and filtered layers and stuff, but it never looks like your works. Maybe it's the base thing that looks different. I do not really draw, after all.

It's mostly experience and practice. Yeah, just as boring as that.

Dear Maker, I'm so impressed and excited and I'll spent quite the time now to just stare at those...

While most of your comments will go on about the different textures, I'm just gonna say yay for 14 pics of these two together

This is really interesting to see. I really liked the look of the left one furtherst down. It really do have that dragon age look.

These before/after/different shots are damn good. It always shows how much the artist is trying to get the best out of it.

I like that much better than someone who might indeed be very skilled making a perfect replica of a screenshot or photo. Why bother? I like to see some personal interpretation.

You are right, when someone is putting some effort into altering pics or screenshots to get the best out of it it is some kind of art.
I hate nothing more as to find totally unaltered screenshots around here. Some people do not even try to blend the icons out, the black frame or even the dialoge.

olivegbg In reply to Finnyanne [2014-04-08 15:28:19 +0000 UTC]

There are some pretty hilarious screenshots out there though. What may annoy me is when someone is posting 20 screenshots per day one the same site making you end up deleting all. You might have missed a really good image.

Finnyanne In reply to olivegbg [2014-04-08 15:33:10 +0000 UTC]

Very true, I try to avoid that myself. And I am very picky about what I post. I must like it myself otherwise it went to the dustbin.
This one I do  not wanted to post first, but a friend talked me into it. I was glad he did

He he. To think that when I first started waffling on about textures you were so unimpressed. Now you have been corrupted. A fun overview. Hm, I like no. 6, the green contrasty one.

olivegbg In reply to Gaspode5 [2014-04-07 16:05:58 +0000 UTC]

Well I tried one or two, leather and bark something... but that was before I found Sirius' and understood how beautiful and versatile textures can be.

Berserker79 [2014-04-06 22:28:48 +0000 UTC]

The cold green looks real nice! I also don't mind the one left of the lava one actually... it's probably because the texture color seems to recall that of Riordan's armor.

olivegbg In reply to Berserker79 [2014-04-07 16:02:13 +0000 UTC]

That one has a scary 'rockwall' feeling. Like they are deep in the Roads and this is the last embrace as they know they're turning to Ghouls. Of course this implies that in the next scene they will give each other 'the mercy stroke'

Wow some of them look really amazing I love the clear light one, the lightling is awesome and it looks like it has a background with some rocky formation and a full moon aaah I absolutely love it! But I love all of them really ^^

Oooooh, I like the last one! The cracks add desperation somehow...

The lave one and the one in cold green are nice too

olivegbg In reply to Wilvarin-chan [2014-04-07 15:58:19 +0000 UTC]

You might be right about the cracks. That one would be a lot of work though, but in the end might be worth it.

TheLoneInquisitor [2014-04-06 17:39:04 +0000 UTC]

Now you're going to hate me but I prefer the ones in which the image isn't too covered by the colors of the textures, but I love the lava one and, of course, the original one despite the fact that the black at the edges of the image covers half of their bodies

I was planning to use the texture with the spot that looks like the Archdemon for the Zevran I'm doing for a friend

olivegbg In reply to TheLoneInquisitor [2014-04-06 17:55:07 +0000 UTC]

Of course not! my aim was to make people look at their images in a different light. I mean, I found 4 options that are possibly better than the original even without adjustments.

TheLoneInquisitor In reply to olivegbg [2014-04-06 18:32:50 +0000 UTC]

textures are fun, I've also discovered that you can combine 2 or more, and in different ways, using the 'only light tones' or other layer options

kids they can't imagine that when we were at their age TV was black and white, telephones were attached to a cable and playing videogames meant going at a game room and lose a lot of coins to play half an hour of pacman

We are vintage

On the other hand it's curious how people that are our age can't live without cellphones and gps anymore, they are lost, and they had lived without them for 30 years

That's what I wanted to present. Make artists look at their images in a different light. Too often you have this pre-conception in your head.
