Now that would have been great to see in the new movies. It's one of the few things that won't be changed by the changed timeline.

The Doomsday Machine would be the same menace, yet weapons and shields in the alternate timeline are obviously much more advanced.

Of course, but situation may have been differently and the characters are not entirely the same.
The Enterprise could have been the first ship to discover the destroyed planets with no second ship around to sacrifice.
Thanks to the advanced technology the Enterprise can escape. Maybe damaged. And now they have to fibd a way to stop it.
Yes, it would have been sweet to see that with a movie budget.
