Battlestar Skinfaxi (BSG-99) is an Arvak class / Skinfaxi type battlestar, a vastly improved design over the retired Galactica type battlestars, first introduced two-years prior to the fall of twelve colonies. Fire power of this type vessel has been markedly increased, dual cannon batteries of the newer design being linked directly to the CNP. However, what sets this battlestar far apart is its obsidian stealth armor, also covering its supporting Viper wings, which not only allowed it to evade the Cylon invasion, but has enabled the Skinfaxi to bring the fight directly to the cold heart of the Cylon empire.Battlestar Skinfaxi by Ian - ikandeathstar.blogspot.com/p/b…

Well if noboy knows you are there they cannot predict your attack, stealth is an incredible advantage.
Less defensively, but still an advantage, generally having the ability to move and act without the enemy knowing is huge.

To be honest, first thought it was some form of Valkyrie derogative due to the silhouette. But a stealth Jupiter-class Battlestar? Nice.
Also, yes, the Galacctica is, canonically, a Jupiter-class Battlestar, she isn't the class namer.

The name of the class comes from Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock, that strategy game they made for the series a while back. The idea of them using a redesign like this makes some sense, since they could use older manufacturing facilities that were made for the Jupiter-class but wouldn't be optimal to built the parts for the much larger Mercury-class or the far smaller Valkyrie-type.
Covering the connecting pylons of the flightpods with armor and such a large plate is a pretty good idea, especially since it provides more surface area for some more capital KEWs as seen on this model.
