Nope, I stopped shading with fingers for years...
The background shading is a by-product of the drawing proses itself, when the dirty hands accidentally touch the paper. I actually like it that way in this particular drawing.

according to intendogs the dalmation IS from croatia so it was prolly named for the area it was first bred in
