Description The Thompson Submachine Gun, aka the Tommy gun, was developed in 1917 under to codename "Annihilator 1". It was originally intended for WW1 as a "one-man, hand-held machine gun", but the war ended too soon for it's use. It gained fame during the Prohibition era, when it was used by law enforcement and gangsters alike.

My's son's friend's friend owns a fully automatic one of these;
it was aquired legally in the 20's and passed down as an heirloom. Some folks have the luck, eh?

Yes, I believe it is. The military version has no foreward handgrip, and it was typically equipped with a more reliable stick mag.
