Description
I don't have have much practice with doing fight scenes, scripting it or drawing it. I have a ton of pages worth of dialog scripted out, but when I get to the point of trying to write out a fight scene panel by panel... I just can't ever get it. I tried basically working backwards with this; I drew a bunch of scribbly little sketches of each bit of movement, then chose the steps just as I was drawing them. Maybe not the most practical way of doing it, but it worked better than what I have been trying to do. I kind of feel like I should have put one more in between when Vilkas is doubled over and when he gets up, or at least something to pace it if I were to actually put this in a page layout. Also, I barely ever draw any of my shapeshifter characters in their alternate forms, so this also served the purpose of making me actually do that for once.I may actually add to this and put it together as a few finished pages. Maybe.
It's a bit of backstory between Vilkas and Fenrir when they were pitted against each other for rank. This is how their fight ended and how Fenrir almost lost his eye. Them being paired off wasn't much of a fair fight otherwise, Vilkas is a lot scrawnier and can barely use his left arm (result of a fight between them a few years before); their father is the one who pushed for it to be arranged, to prove his point that Fenrir is some sort of prodigy and that Vilkas is just some runt.

You did such an incredible job here! I hope you'll do more fighting scenes! I have few question. How do you make a fight scene? How can it be storyboarded? And how can you make one without "copying" what's been done already? Please, I'd like to know.

Thank you very much!
Honestly, I've mostly just been winging it. This was my first attempt at changing how I did them, I'd previously been trying to script them out first, but that wasn't really working for me.
I already knew what I wanted the out come to be, and that I wanted to show the difference in their fighting styles; Fen using mostly brute strength and giving Vilkas a broken rib, Vilkas being a scrappier fighter and winning by hitting Fen with his brace. Instead of scripting it, I just drew a bunch of little thumbnail sketches and picked the main ones to use.
As far as coming up with ideas without copying, I feel like giving the character a set fighting style helps a lot. If a character has a specific way of fighting, it makes it easier to think "what would they do here? Do they react defensively or offensively? How could they potentially they win/lose?", rather than thinking about it as a full scene you're trying to write.

No problem! And hey do your best okay? You got this really!
Yeah it's just...people worked hard on doing action/fight scenes in general really. I don't want to "steal" their ideas it just feels disrespectful. But hey if people like you say it's okay the least I can do is study what people did already and "mix" it up. I just dunno how...

Oh, I think you misunderstood what I meant. I didn't mean copying, but there are fighting techniques that you can apply to your characters, ex. different types of martial arts, boxing, etc.
If you assign a style to your character it makes it easier to think about what your character would do in a fight. A bigger character is more likely to use their weight and brute strength, punching, tackling, etc. A smaller character is going to have to rely more on speed, both physically and mentally.

...I'm now wondering about the ethics of organised werewolf fighting.

I suppose it would come down to a matter of if they are more mentally dog or human, would it be more akin to professional boxing/wrestling/etc. or dog fighting?

I think it would be more dog fighting to be honest. Since they can't control themselves.

In that case, I'd say unethical. Unless maybe, if they were to sign up for it while human, and would therefore be going in fully aware of what they're about to do. It's still questionable, but only about as questionable as any other violent hobby, rather than on a matter of being coerced into something.

I supposed it all depends on whether they were in on the idea or not. Like, if they agreed to it while human, it would basically be like a huge cage fight. But if some guy was just like using them to fight in an arena...yeah. Not cool.

Yeah, exactly. It would have to come down to if it's their choice or not. If people who know they're werewolves want to duke it out on a full moon, sure, have at it.

Looks good! The action is fluid and the movement looks exciting as a fight scene should be! Excellent study!

I think would have had Fenrir starting to swivel around to face Vilkas more in the fourth panel so it's not as much as a surprise in the fifth one that Fenrir is suddenly facing the other direction. Otherwise, the action clear, believable and flows well, so I enjoyed it.
Fight scenes are hard and the only thing I can recommend is to sparingly use close-ups and panels with multiple actions going on at once. Instead, it's usually good to show more than less and spread complicated manuevers/chaotic situations into multiple panels. That means more effort, but that's the price of quality (and you clearly aren't lazy like me, so I don't think that's a problem for you ).

A few of the panels here are sort of combined from how I would have them if I were to put this into page format. I would split the fourth panel. Have Vilkas cut out of the frame and only show Fenrir walking away, with just the speech bubble entering; because as far as Fenrir realizes, he doesn't expect Vilkas to get up, he thinks he won. Then the next one would have them both in it again, with Fenrir turned around to see Vilkas standing. Same thing with the last one. I drew Fenrir having just hit the ground, but Vilkas already slumped up against the wall, Fenrir would hit the ground faster than Vilkas would have been able to back up. I more or less was skipping the steps that would pace it out, for the sake of focusing on the poses with the most movement and interaction.

Damn, that looks painful and the backstory is so sad!
You did a really good job even though you don't practice doing fight scenes! ^^

Well, Fenrir kinda deserves getting his face fucked up, and get his ego bruised.
And thank you! :3
