Upon first meeting strangers, he can be very shy. He has no problem with being assertive with younger people such as Eden and his companions, but anyone around his age can make him a bit nervous. Because of this, he’s terribly awkward in conversation and will avoid speaking unless forced into conversation. He’s terrible at social gatherings and as such, tends to avoid them altogether unless accompanied by Eden. For all of his awkward follies, he has a good heart buried deep down under the chip on his shoulder. Unintentionally, he can come off as kind of an ass the first time he’s spoken to, but that has more to do with how awkward he is than actually being a jerk.

While his past relationship with Eden's older sister is fairly straight forward if not a little backwards, his relationship to Eden is a bit more complex. He is very partial to Eden and very protective over him. Acting the part of guardian, the two live together in a small but comfortable apartment financed by both of their modest incomes. The two can even seem like they're lovers considering how protective Masquerade is over him, but upon scratching the surface, it's a far more familial bond the two share complete with petty arguments and blankly annoyed stares.

➤Background/History:
Life as an absol is rather brutal; at least for this particular absol. His family trained non-stop, and once he hit level 5, he became old enough to do the same. The training was brutal, but Masquerade showed a great amount of potential. Unfortunately, absol are not well known for being all that compassionate and his parents were far more concerned with his power than his well-being. As a youngster, he was granted very little sleep, deprived of food and trained religiously until he “grew his fangs.” By level 20, he had risen through the ranks to a tentative lieutenant overseeing the younger of his colony.

By the time he reached level 25, his small colony had grown powerful enough to overtake an eevee settlement and claim the land as their own. On their way to claim the eevee settlement’s land, they unknowingly crossed into a territory belonging to a sleuth of ursaring. When the ursaring discovered the intruders, they unleashed an all-out defensive attack against the absol; though there were many injuries, the clan was spared the loss of its members only because the eevee clan the absol had come to overpower stepped in to stop the attacking ursaring.

During the attacks, Masquerade was badly injured by the claws of one of the ursaring. When his mother and father found him, they deemed him too weak to be bothered with and they abandoned him where he lay. He might have died there, had the eevee clan not taken him in. They tended his wounds and harbored him until he was back on his feet; in spite of their help, he was left with several scars that served as a lasting reminder of his failings. His right eye also never healed properly, and currently he can only see shadows and blurs of grey with that eye.

It took him a long time to heal, but even longer to heal emotionally. For the first few months, he refused to leave the small home he was granted and spent the majority of his time as far away from everyone as he possibly could. It wasn’t until the eevee clan’s flareon leader allowed her eldest daughter Paradise and her very young brother to tend to him that he slowly started to come out of his shell. To this day, they maintain a very close brother/sister platonic relationship, and like any older brother, Masquerade is very protective over his adoptive siblings.

Unfortunately, it wasn't long after his emotional scars started to heal over that Eden was exiled from the village and he was forced to make the decision to leave with him or to stay in the only place he had ever felt was actually his home. Still recuperating and not at all accustomed to his blind eye at the time, he did not follow Eden, a choice he has long since lived to deeply regret.

Now that they have been reunited, Masquerade feels his constant overseeing of Eden's life is a form of atonement for failing to follow him and allowing what happened to Eden to actually occur.

After the ursaring attack, damage was actually sustained to both of his eyes, making him colourblind.
Despite his ferocious appearance, Masquerade has made a lot of progress in becoming more approachable. Sadly, it's not really saying much.
However, unlike Eden whom is constantly the voice of reason, Masquerade is more prone to acting on his emotions.
He blushes easily and is prone to looking away a lot to hide it.
He’s a bit of a closet pervert, but is still a gentleman.
He harbors a deep resentment toward his parents and his clan and tends to lash out at any other absol he happens to meet. Other absol, beware.
