Description Another of the collection from my first Cuesta drawing class. This is the landscape project - the lawn in front of the art department.

I love how drawing makes everyday things look more interesting. Those classes must have paid off because your skills are formidable. When I see stuff like this, it motivates me to practice, so that one day I can make something like this...

It didn't really take as much scalpel determination as you might think, quite the opposite in fact. Most of what I do with pieces like this is a freeform mental process - guided scribbles with minor formal corrections. I layer the energy I see in the living tree, or grass, or creature, and subtract as the light energy dapples. This was just soft ebony pencil and eraser pencil. The art of capturing and expressing the raw energy of living bodies is something this particular teacher excels at, and you won't find in most junior high art classes.
