Uh....i'm pretty sure that his obsession with "Hiccup" is because he's the other Dragon Rider with influence of the Dragons which challenges his authority, also he seemed to want to take down his mother and father more and saw Hiccup as a flea.

It isn't just un-fascinating, it makes no rational sense from either perspective in that all you have is a very one-note...one dimensional character Β who's only interest in the other is that he is competition to being the "Dragon Master" , and the other being the son of the man HE murdered who hates violence which makes up the other guys nature

Um, are we talking about Dagur or Joffrey? Because Dagur didn't kill Stoick, though he made the offer to Hiccup. Before Hiccup outed himself as a dragon rider, Dagur had that unhealthy obsession since Hiccup supposedly saved Dagur from a Night Fury, and the latter is too delusional to realize that he's in the wrong.

It's not solvent or possible in canon, but it's fascinating to contemplate. Unlike Alvin the Treacherous, Dagur doesn't have book backstory, so there's lots of potential for him
