Well i understand the argument that in concept he's almost a fan-recolor of LA but smaller.
And I think that he wasn't given a long enough run in of himself to have the impact he deserved as a character.

Well, if you read the manga, he had a pretty decent run.
Plus, I'm glad it was short. I was starting to get pretty impatient with how long it was gonna take for Light to get caught.

Agreed, it just seemed a little too...i don't know rushed in terms of his defeat, and allot of it barred on what L had already done.
And the Manga indeed was in depth, but it didn't seem like a real succession to L or that it was part of a bigger scheme, it seemed like it was the "Well he's dead so you'll have to be happy with this, and this ending, but hey, Light gets busted right?"
I don't know, I have that sinking feeling that it wasn't the best they could do. Love it all the same, but I'm just saying I do understand SOME of the complaints about Near..in so far that it's one about the second half of the series over all.
Now Me I love Near , which is why i did this series about just him, because i wanted him to have more play, and I mean what's a better setting or calamity for him to step into taking on then a Post Kira world?

Well there are some official side stories that explain how he met L and later on what he would do after beating Light. Like easily taking down someone impersonating Kira.

Not only that, he is only as smart as someone like him is GIVEN that he had knowledge of the Death Note and no one else did, yet acted like he was some superb genius. Once L got wind of the death note's existence and reality, he almost solved the case THAT day which is why he had to die. L is and always will be WAY more brilliant than Light no matter what they say

Gonna be honest, Light is pretty damn smart. But I agree, he had the advantage of a magic notebook. L is smarter than Light. That was actually confirmed by the author. L is the smartest character in the series. Near was apparently the second smartest.

Plus, I only based that IQ thing off the handbook. Near apparently has the highest IQ of the series.

I was like WTF when I read that, but it did give me an idea as to how L could in fact survived the events of Death Note. Now i'ts probably not something i'm going to avently pursue but it's a nice idea to play with

You can't fake a Death Note death. Your real name is written in and your dead. No reverses. No loopholes. Just dead.
Rem being a Shinigami could see anyone's true name. She saw L and wrote it down. So L is definitely dead.
Unless it happened to be that very day that L switched places with someone who looked exactly like him... like Beyond Birthday, but the problem is that BB sort of... well hates L so...

It sort of goes into into that. Essentially it's that Rem kills BB by request after he switches places with L because he wants to steal L's death rather than die the way he's supposed to...and yes it would be to save Misa still.

No more like BB faked his death, as in impersonated him after taking and hiding him somewhere. L wakes up to realize that for it to be a flawless switch, Watari indeed had to die, as BB knew would probably happen, and L knew would happen too (hence that moment that wasn't in the manga but should've been where L has his last words with Watari in the anime.) So he's not to happy tor realize that BB went and got Rem to kill them both off. So he utilizes the cover he's been given as being hidden and dead to basically orchestrate things from the shadows to help Near.

Yes. That's the idea. In the Anime credit scene where Light is dying in the wearhouse alone, then sees L and thinks he's going mad, he ins't, he actually sees L
