This was made in response to Hiccup's "In my opinion" overly and bull headed pacifistic outlook on his country being at war. To be fair I think Shan Yu would be a little more reasonable then Drago. Drago was pretty crazy and he didn't care about his men.
Shan Yu on the other hand was shown to be respectful to his men implying he cared for his clan so imagine if Drago came and demanded the Huns should submit to him and they said no so Drago sicked his dragons on them killing a fair number of them Shan Yu would want revenge for his clan. So I bet he's reasonable enough to form a temporary alliance with an enemy to take out a bigger enemy. Also Shan Yu doesn't have dragons so he would probably be smart to not go to war with guys that have large flying fire/electric/ice breathing creatures that are more effective then the Hun's horses and would probably end up scaring the horses. As soon as he sees the dragons he would tell his men to get out of there and this is a battle they cannot win.
Also I don't think Shan is 100% human anyway.

You know I can ironically see Shan Yu siding with Hiccup on the whole part of what it takes to earn the loyalty of a person or an animal and in disgust calls Drago out for it. Drago abused the dragons including the Bewilderbeast with his bullhook and by yelling to get them to obey him out of fear so he's an obvious animal abuser and he certainly abuses his men to if his treatment to Eret was any indication. Shan Yu was never seen ill treating his falcon so it's obvious he must have raised and trained that falcon without abuse since it hatched and built a complete trust and bond with it. The same can also apply to the horses. Shan Yu has probably killed animals but that's probably for food and survival and not pure sadism considering his nomadic lifestyle. Drago also didn't take into account that his soldiers might betray him for being treated like dirt, Shan Yu however knows it's better to treat your soldiers with respect so the less likely they will turn on you. Shan Yu's logic is probably ''Be cruel and merciless to your enemies, but do not be cruel to your soldiers, pets or animals that you use in war''
Man if Shan Yu faced Drago he could just easily chop that bullhook of Drago's in half with his sword considering he sliced through 3 massive pillars and the top of a tree with it.......
I'd draw that if only Shan and Drago weren't both pains in the ass to draw.
