“What was that about?”

Stephanie’s tone was more than a little irate as she marched across the gym towards where the two women had been exchanging words. Holly, grateful for the distraction, ducked her head and jogged faster.

But the visitor, Samiya Isa had called her, didn’t even look over. She just disentangled herself from the rack and sauntered off with a scoff and a wave of her hand.

That actually brought Stephanie, used to a certain amount of respect, up short for a moment. When Allison wasn’t in, it was an unwritten rule of the gym that she was in charge as far as any problems went. Not to mention that she was pretty sure that the deal hadn’t included the visitors being allowed to treat the usual patrons like trash.

Now, admittedly, she didn’t want to make a scene or make trouble for Allison when her friend got back. The last thing she wanted was for this to blow up in the JSG’s face.

At the same time, Stephanie really didn’t like bullies. She and Holly might not exactly be best buddies, the blonde didn’t need to have someone disparaging her like this Samiya was.

The visitor had headed over to another workout machine so Stephanie made her way over. At first, she did her best not to make a scene of it. But Samiya just ignored her, until Stephanie planted herself squarely in the other woman’s line of sight.

That just got her an annoyed huff but at least she was paying attention now.

“Look,” Stephanie offered, trying to strike a balance between being firm and not overdoing it, “I know Allison agreed to let you work out here, but I don’t think she’d appreciate you bullying her friends. If you can’t show some respect, I’ll have to ask you to leave.”

Samiya wasn’t impressed.

“If blondie over there can’t take the heat,” the smaller of the two scoffed, “Then she should stay out of the kitchen. Particularly if she’s as useless as she looks.” Her eye roll encompassed the whole gym. “You can tell it’s amateur hour in here. I can’t believe this is where we’re supposed to train – I can’t even get a decent sparring partner.”

Despite her best efforts to keep her temper on an even keel, the bigger brunette found herself taking another step forward, closing the distance between them as her hand balled into a tight fist at her side.

Screw it.

“Holly’s not got time to waste on you, but my schedule’s free and so are the mats. Care to go a round or two, Ms Assassin, or are you all talk after all?”

Samiya didn’t miss a beat.

“You’re on,” Carefully, she put the bar back down before pushing right up into Stephanie’s personal space, “Just don’t go running to your boss when I kick your ass and leave you drooling like the amateur trash you are.”

Spotting Isa as she moved over to the mats, the Schoolgirl Assassin couldn’t resist a passing shot accompanied by a mocking wave.

“Still hanging out with losers, Armstrong? Maybe they’ve got a job for you here, cleaning the showers or something.”

Yeah, sorry Allison. Stephanie was going to enjoy making an example here.
