Makendo was born into Pride Shemu and grew up as a skilled and respected warrior. He was known for his bravery in battle and his ability to track scents with incredible precision. As he grew older, he found himself drawn to Nykara, the vizier of The Medjay, despite the fact that their prides were traditionally rivals, even when at peace.
Their relationship was passionate but kept secret, as it would have been frowned upon by both prides. Nykara struggled with the conflict between her love for Makendo and her duty as vizier, ultimately deciding to end their relationship to maintain her position.
Despite the heartbreak of their separation, Makendo focused on his duties as a warrior and continued to serve Pride Shemu with distinction. He was shocked when Nykara appeared to him with a young cub, their daughter Hakor, who Nykara entrusted to his care. Makendo took on the responsibility of raising Hakor as his own and taught her in the ways of the warrior.
Makendo bears the physical and emotional scars of his past relationship with Nykara but remains fiercely loyal to his pride and his daughter. He has learned to compartmentalize his emotions and channel his pain into his training and battles, becoming even more skilled and fearsome as a result.
