The Coalition (Pride Shemu & Pride Akhet)
These Prides have existed almost as long as Egypt itself- or so they say. Their ancient origin, as passed down in stories through the ages, is that they began as a single pride of lions deep in Africa. Competition and scarce resources forced the ancient king of those lions to travel to find a new home for his family. Along the way, lions of the pride were lost, but the pride found friends in other kinds of cats to replace their lost pridemates. Leopards, cheetahs, and even tigers joined their ranks, giving the pride an edge on their neighbors with the newfound strengths and abilities of those members. They eventually took in cats even smaller, such as caracals, servals, and sand cats, who could leap high and provide an element of stealth the others could not match. When they reached the Delta, however, problems had begun to arise in the crowded Pride from the various species, and it was decided that the massive pride would split into four. Now only two remain, but they are as strong and steadfast as ever, stubbornly clinging to existence despite whatever dangers threaten them.
Pride Akhet
Prideful Akhet is where you will find the feisty smaller cats of the Nile Delta who closely worship the goddess Bastet. Servals, caracals, sand cats, and golden cats are common here. What they lack in Shemu's size and strength they make up for with their sheer numbers and diversity with which they use to flood the enemy and overwhelm opponents. Like the river that gives them life, as a drop they are little, but together, they are powerful.
The ideology that they are weaker, however, has made them a stubbornly proud pride. They protect their own fiercely and rarely shy away from confrontation; it is, afterall, the loyalty of the clan at their backs that gives them the confidence to stand strong against adversaries.
They reside near to the river, monitoring it closely during the flood season and seeking higher ground when they predict it's arrival. They build dens among the reeds and hunt water birds, fish, and rodents that are plentiful near the riverbank. They often hunt near towns and cities as well, where rodents seem to flock to, but prefer to stick to nature.
Their emblem is a shen (representing protection), and a sesen/lotus flower (representing life and rebirth).
Common Species
Sand cats, jungle cats, Golden cats, Servals, Caracals, etc
General Traits
Fiery, passionate, stealthy, fiercely loyal
Territory
Along rivers and desert lowlands. Often inhabit the fertile flood plains, and move to higher ground during the flood season.
Beliefs
They honor and pray to the cat goddess, Bastet, and at night when most humans are sleeping, occasionally leave her offerings at her temple in Bubastis. They attribute their faith in Bastet to their ability to be innately in touch with nature; being able to sense coming rainstorms and the flooding of the Nile.
