Ramiel's Quest
Previous: here!
Next: fav.me/dc6ud7n

I have often dreamed of a far off place

Where a hero's welcome would be waiting for me

Where the crowds would cheer, when they see my face

And a voice keeps saying this is where I'm meant to be

- Ramiel -

“I know it might not make sense,” I murmured. My old mentor and close confidant, Ocean, lay beside where I sat. “But I don't feel like I belong here. For better or for worse, I feel a call to the wild. To nature…” I trailed off, realizing my eyes had drifted to the distance where I could see trees and birds. I tore them free and looked back at my friend. “I respect the Hunters, I do. But I don't have the thirst for blood to make me successful here. I've seen and felt what it is to be on the other side...Both sides. There must be another way, Ocean. There must be some in-between where all cats can be at peace with one another.” My eyes hardened with resolve. “I simply cannot believe that the only two fates for a feline in this world is either to be a slave or a Hunter of slaves. If those defectors had never escaped their chains, what would become of the Bounty Hunters? The humans would have no need for us. They would make us all slaves, and we'd all want to defect.”

I didn't voice my opinion that the humans probably allowed the slave cats to escape to give the Hunters a job that would generate more money for their economy, just like their wars. I had learned most of what he knew through observation and studying the nature of others, and i had learned that humans leaned towards greed, even if others were hurt by it. They went about their greedy ways using odd methods, such as creating problems just so they could solve them. The cages that were constantly not strong enough to hold back cats from escape seemed too fishy. When lack of security was the base cause for defectors, why hadn't those cages and locks been reinforced? Instead, the money went towards the Bounty Hunters, and towards funding wars that Augustus Caesar led. (Or tried to, with his poor health.)

Ocean’s gaze was unreadable, but I could have sworn I saw some sympathy in his eyes. “Like I said, I don't expect you to fully understand. But I feel our life here is fragile. As if it hangs from a string that could be cut at any time…” My eyes fell. “So I'm cutting my own string.” I said with a deep sigh. “My human and roommate Lexus have transferred to Massilia. My apprentice is not getting the type of education the Hunters would desire. You are truly my only trusted friend here.” I looked at him with earnest. Ocean had once been Oceanus, a female, although she'd always been quite masculine. More recently he'd changed his name to officially match how he felt inside- and many had found the change to be more befitting him. So, perhaps in some way he would understand my need for some soul searching. We had certainly been through a lot together. And just as he had found himself, it was now time that I did the same.

“Once the other Hunters find out, I'll be labeled a traitor and they'll be out for my head.” I remarked, accepting the risk of what I was doing. “I wish deciding to leave didn't come with such a heavy penalty… I've always believed that our choice to serve is what made us so fierce. But now I feel as trapped as those in the cages. If we have no choice but to carry on in our duties against our will, then we're no more than slaves ourselves.” I muttered, and hung my head for a moment at the blasphemous claim, afraid for a moment that I had spoken too freely and Ocean would lash out. But I was met with silence. “I just...I need to be out there. My instincts are calling me.”

I stood up, taking the helmet I had hanging from my side and placed it at Ocean’s paws. “If you want, you can tell them I was killed by some animal while out on patrol. I don't plan to come near the city again, so with any luck I can avoid running into anyone.” My ears pulled back. This was a huge risk I was taking on a whim. The city had been my home for three years now. Ocean had been a close friend. I hoped I was making the right decision... Something in my gut told me I was.

“I will always remember your teachings. Take care of my apprentice.” I stepped forward to put my forehead against Ocean’s.

“Take care, friend.”

This is part 1/2 arts/writings describing Ramiel's leaving of the Roman Bounty Hunters and becoming a Solus cat! I'll say this probably took place about...no more than a month ago. So let's say he left Rome on Feb 24th? That way I can just jump right into the next plots for him lol.

This is not publicly known knowledge, so no Hunters should suddenly know he is missing and label him a traitor. If anyone asks Ocean, Ocean won't be ratting him out (whatever response he does give is up to Grace)!! For now, until they find things out what happened to him, he'll be labeled as missing.

This one took FOREVER because I did it on my smart phone using Autodesk Sketchbook, then had to wait for a chance to get to some place with wifi and a computer to upload it. Service where I am right now SUCKS. So everything takes forever.

Ocean is owned by Grace-Winters   Her part: TRD | New Direction
Ramiel belongs to me!

I'll be there someday, I can go the distance

I will find my way if I can be strong

I know every mile would be worth my while

When I go the distance, I'll be right where I belong

Thank you! I'm glad you like it!! I hope you don't mind that I had to lighten Ocean's darker fur a little bit! It was too close to the line color so it made him look like a huge blob lol
