It’s Bumblebee week on Tumblr which I promised a friend I would take part in because;

A. A smol boy deserves more love
B. It’s giving me great character development ideas for him!

So the answer as to who are Benjamin Bane/’Bumblebee’s best friends in Ties That Bind was a question that needed a little research, but Charlie Watson and Guillermo ‘Memo’ Guttierez fit bill perfectly, which means you’re looking at three of the youngest members of the Autobots.

Charlie remains mostly as she was character-wise! She’s an excellent diver which has made her a prime candidate for early draft into the navy, which she has no interest in however, with her dream to become mechanic and open her own workshop instead. She and Ben bond over classic cars and being outcasts due to either not fitting in or not wanting to fit in with the respective future line of work they were assigned while the two of them worked part-time at her uncle’s scrap yard on weekends. She apprentices under Anita Carlos/‘Nautica’, the Autobots’ head mechanic as an honorary member of the team.
She’s been Ben’s safe space to talk about his emotions ever since she caught him hiding bruises he claims were from falls at home (she knows better).

Memo was initially slated as a member of manual working class, like Ben was (and they were in the same school), however his interest laid in mass com/news reporting, which actually led to him covering the Clampdown in his neighbourhood, and this led to his arrest by Ben’s father, a top-ranking (and abusive) police officer (this becomes a catalyst for Ben to find the courage to fight against his father for the first time in order to save his best friend).
He’s often found with Blaster in the central command room collating reports from the field and relaying messages to and from the team during missions.
For a long time, his place was a safe haven for Ben whenever things got too heated in Ben’s home life.

The team as a whole is definitely a little overprotective of these three caballeros given their relative youth, but they’re hell bent on doing their thing and fighting for a world that will let them be who they want to be.
