Culminating this week’s 90s callbacks :’DThere weren’t enough DinosaurMons to work out the original cast. Specifically a Pterosaur for Kimberly and a…..Sabretooth Tiger. And Mastodon and—-you know what animals are easier shhh.
So here these bastards with their ‘spirit animals’ from the 1995 movie:
Falcon, Crane, Wolf, Bear, Ape, Frog.
Thomas ‘Tommy’ Oliver and William ‘Billy’ Cranston are both aspiring Breeders my guess—-one of mixed-ethnicity from the Unovan deserts (The original was apparently native American so I decided to make things a little more obvious) and the other from Mauville City.
Also now cannot unsee Joshua Imala in Tommy’s role halp.
Rocky DeSantos and Aisha Campbell from Veilstone City and Castelia City respectively are Trainers and it probably shows in the general recklessness Rocky stop tempting fate ffs
Kimberly Hart and Adam Park are both Co-ordinators, one from Hearthome City and the other Nacrene City.
And I don’t even have to explain the whole morphing thing because Nintendo did it for me :’D

Also, yes, I'm well aware that Mightyena is supposed to be a hyena, the main reason I picked it is because it alone between the dog-types actually resembled a real wolf designwise and had passables colorings :'D
Arcanine is too brightly colored and Manectric slipped my mind until the last moment,
A lot of people I know also tend to depict theline as wolf-like or doglike, so it stuck somewhat XDXD

More so since you used a swan instead of a crane and a hyena instead of a wolf (Mightyena is a hyena ya know, while there are some wolves available such as Arcanine or Manectric).

Also I'm pretty sure Altairas are based off Phoenixes and/or cranes, not swans 8U Else I would have picked the more obvious Swanna.
Arcanines are Foo Dogs/heavy mastiffs/too garrishly color and frankly speaking aren't wolves in the slightest XDXD
A Manectric would have been a better option, yes. It even comes in blue howdodIoverlookthat
Most people tend to design Mightyena as wolves 8U I just went with it. They retain the most obvious wolf-coloring too.

Lol, I Derped and confused Altaria with Swanna |D
Though nope, Altaria is actually based on a Peng, a giant bird from Chinese mythology, which is said to have cloud like wings and is sometimes portrayed as having a dragon's head.
And Arcanine is based on a Shisa, another mythical being, which is portrayed as a lion, tiger or wolf, which is why it looks like a wolf with tiger-like stripes (interestingly, Raikou is based on the tiger version of that creature (lol, as a fun fact, I dunno why some people keep callin' Raikou, Entei and Suicune "Legendary Dogs" while officially, they are always called "Legendary Beasts" and are all based on felines |D).
Also, not to question peoples' skill of reading, but didn't anyone notice the "yena" in Mightyena sounds more like "hyena" than "wolf"? Seriously, it's not THAT hard to notice, nor is it that hard to check, especially with the multitude of Pokemon centered sites |3
Pokemon have some really interesting origins sometimes, hence why I got really into it >3 damn, I'm acting like a creepy geek, aren't I?
(By the way, when people hear hyena they usually think Spotted Hyena, which is most commonly used in cartons and and such, and Mightyena was based on a Brown Hyena instead. So yeah, some people might not get the reference right away, but still, I think the name is a pretty nice hint).

Also trust me, people can read 'hyena', the main problem is that out of all the available canine Pokemon, its general build (had the creators kept the slope of the back more hyenalike. it would have been more noticeable, but the way the neck and shoulders are also suggest canine origins) colors pass off as the most wolf-like in comparison ie mostly greys and blacks :'DDDD
I have a headcanon that they were originally designed like hyenas, but due to their similar looks at some point people started breeeding them in with actual dogs, thus you have the original which retains the hyenaness and an offshoot/subspecies which more resembles dogs in profile.
I did the same thing with Lucario with two offshoots----the Classic which is four-legged and a plains hunter/pack animal with emphasis on Special Attack and Neo, a subset which adapted to specialize to woodland life instead and became more 'bearlike' in the sense that it took on a more omnivorous diet which forced it to become more bipedal to better scavenge for food in trees and needing the extra bulk/size for territorial battles. This one is better woth Physical Attacks.
Arcanine is too large and tends to be built like a tank/shaggy mastiff/large dog instead of the sleek profile one would need to depict a wolf. Also fur that garrishly colored isn't made for hunting in the woods or tundra I'd imagine it to be more of a plains hunter where the golds and blacks can blend in with dry grass surroundings,
I would sooner choose a Houndoom for the part, but it's clearly, designwise anyway, a doberman although I adore people who transform it into Rottweilers and Sennenhunds.
I'm sorry, hanging out with awesome End Run people I like artistic lisence shhhh----Snowy owl Togekisses, cat Kirlias and Gardevoirs, Crane Altaria, Condor Sigilyphs, faun Gothita/telles, lemurfox Abras and Terrorbird Dodrios and all the crazy different dinosaurs they can use with dragons and all the different subsets of dogs too. Lucarios have been designed as werewolves, Jackals, actual wolves XDXD you'd be amazed.
It's fun to see who experiments with what.
