Description It's true. I'll use stuff like "srsly" and "ppl" on occasion, but I use punctuation (even commas!), I generally double space at the end of my sentences, and I don't use things like "u" instead of "you".

It doesn't use any more battery power to text in complete sentences than it does to abbreviate. The point in abbreviating is saving time and space (since texts are supposed to be so short) but the consumption of power is not the issue. Your phone is using up pretty much the same amount of power just being on and not locked as it does when you're texting.

You must have a different text plan than me. My old plan cost something like 25 cents per text (not charged by the letter or word but per message) but then I got an unlimited plan so I can text who ever when ever as many times as I want and it's a flat fee.

But regardless, I'm just saying that I text in complete sentences with full punctuation. Some people do. Some people don't.

Personally I dislike reading too many abbreviations because when full punctuation and words are used, it minimizes the chance of being misunderstood.

But all that aside, you kind of commented on my comment out of the blue and I'm wondering if you were feeling offended somehow. Why does it matter to you if I text in complete sentences? I do and I do because I prefer my texts that way. If you don't, then that's your thing and that's how you prefer it so what does it matter to you what I do?

Okay then. I suppose it really is good to hear the reasoning people have for their different way of thinking. But yeah. That's why I do it. I don't like to be misunderstood so I like to be very clear with my spelling, punctuation, and wording.

I understand it, but it lacks the ability to clearly convey meaning - just a rough approximation of meaning. I also feel that when people become too accustomed to typing in text-speak then they have tend to teach themselves bad typing habits. I was a transcriptionist for a number of years and fast, accurate typing is kind of my M.O. And I'm not a teenager. I'm an almost 30 year old mom.

I do that as well. It helps having a QWERTY keyboard, but I did it even without...

Really, I can't tell what my brother is trying to say half the time.

YES.
It's so hard to figure out what texts are saying when they're all, "k c u l8r." and stuff like that. D;
I use brb, w/ and w/o if I'm in a hurry, but those are like the only ones I understand.
Everything else just frustrates me. :C

Yay for this stamp, even if I can't use it yet. :'D

It's funny; I'll be texting a friend, using complete sentences(even commas, semi-colons and apostrophes) and they'll call me nerdy. Then they text back with something like "omfg ur sooo n3rdy hahahah LOL" and I'll annoying them by sending back an edited text of what they sent me. I'm a grammar-nazi, and can hardly even understand chatspeak.

I definitely agree!
I don't actually text at all, but in emails and whatnot, I always use complete sentences - plus the smiley faces, of course!
I find text-speak really annoying and hard to read, too...

When words are abbreviated that much, they're just hard to read. Maybe I'm not in today's era.

Is it? I know quite a few people who don't use it or like to read it. I can understand most words written in text speak, but not all of them. I also just think it doesn't look pretty.
