It's true. I'll use stuff like "srsly" and "ppl" on occasion, but I use punctuation (even commas!), I generally double space at the end of my sentences, and I don't use things like "u" instead of "you".
You have to have a subscription to use stamps.

Stuff like that happens, I know how that is.
However, in places where you aren't charged per letter, generally it's more respectable to write in complete sentences and words.

Over here... generally it's the lazy, not-so-mature people who write using abbreviated text speak.
Not to say we have perfect grammar. Far from it. Most don't.
I'm kind of stuck in explaining. I hope that makes sense.

I don't really have an example ready. I can understand like "txt", "b4" and "g2g", but if it gets any more ridiculous than that, I'm hopelessly lost.

I do it. It bugs me to read my own words like that, let alone someone elses. It may not be quick but it sure as hell is easier to read and understand a message.

I do occasionally use "plz" and stuff like that, but only when I'm feeling silly and playing around. And even then, the majority of my sentences are complete and legible.

I don't always use apostrophes, and I say 'ttyl', but other than that I type out every word completely, and use proper sentence structure. xD

Ugh. I hate it when people don't even use periods. On most phones (even the ones without full keyboards) the period is right there and easy to use, right? Yet people never use it. D:
I don't think I abbreviate anything normally unless I'm running out of characters in my message. Then I have to take out apostrophes and maybe shorten some words.

I have a friend, who has a full keyboard on her phone, and bought it because of the full keyboard, but still replies to "Hey whats up?" with "ntm u" FOUR LETTERS A COMPLETE SENTENCE DOES NOT MAKE!
I can forgive when you're in a rush, or have a picky phone [[tiny numeric texting keys are NO fun]], or you just plain need to say something SUPER simple--but I refuse to read a message that requires a decoder ring to decipher. I'm not even fluent in ASL, but I can understand better sentences with choppy knowledge than I can understand "wyd".
ntm, wyd, omw, all of the most common text messages I get. Seriously, at least give me a CLUE about what you're trying to say. Jeez, I have a friend who "types like this wen hes too lazy to do sum10 bout his typin", but I can at least read what the hell he's saying better than I can read most text messages.
