It's true. I'll use stuff like "srsly" and "ppl" on occasion, but I use punctuation (even commas!), I generally double space at the end of my sentences, and I don't use things like "u" instead of "you".
You have to have a subscription to use stamps.

Indeed! All that text language turns my brain upside down, though I only put one space after sentences; I have a 160 character limit for text messages. I wish I could use stamps so I could spread this message to the world...! *frump*

Yes, some of it, but I'm one of those teens who enjoys proper conversation and grammar; simply intellectuals, like myself. Therefore, I do text in complete sentences.

I do this too. Most of my friends never use correct punctuation, and it gets really hard to know what they mean at times xD

I use "lol" and sometimes "u" if I'm in a hurry, but most of the time I use perfect spelling, including commas, apostrophes, capital letters, etc. I don't see any point in abbreviating and taking shortcuts when it only takes a couple more seconds to write properly. When my friend says stuff like "how r u? good? thats good. im bored i dont hav anythng to do..." I just feel like they don't really care about talking to me. Plus I'm a grammar freak at times. I was raisied that way. (No, it's NOT "Sally came to the movies with Jane and I." It's "with Jane and me." Lol XD)

Because I feel like a person doesn't care as much about our conversation when they abbrieviate and use shortcuts. I don't think it wastes batteries that much. "Thx" and "thanks" are about equal in battery power.

I really only txt speak when I'm in a hurry[with the exception of lol and a few others]... but then again where I'm from the slang is short as well so the need for txt talk isn't as big.
One of my friends texts with sentences but uses the slang but then the rest just txt speak. It's kinda weird when I have to text them back asking what they just said.

Of course I understand the text era. I'm 14. Haha, everyone I text uses it apart from one friend. I'm forced to understand it.
We get around 10p per text or contract phone which you pay monthly or you get 'prizes' which you get a top-up then get free texts for that month.
And it's not a waste of batteries/energy. xD Where did you get that? Your phone battery will last about the same no matter what you use. It's the video/picture camera or the internet which will really bash the battery.

Would I understand the German language just because I was born there? I don't. I speak English. not 'txt' speak.
I moved to this town in Scotland with heavy slang and it took me years to understand it all. Even still I don't. It's the same with texts. Just because lots of people around the world use it doesn't mean everyone who texts, understands it.
Just because I was born in the 90's being a teenager doesn't mean 'txt' speak comes naturally.

That's impossible. Even if every time someone used it, they'd be learning all the time. Teens already know what it means by friends knowing. It's a learning process. It's impossible to understand something with out learning first.
