Description There needs to be a steampunk category or something. At least I'm making good use of misc.

Anyway, I suppose not really a true velociraptor due to the lack of claws of doom, but I figured sharp ripping claws wouldn't go on a wind up toy thingy.

First of all, the composition, in terms of shape, is quite good. The ascendant hierarchy between the paper, the creature and the candle, give flow and a sense of order to this piece.

The elements work nicely altogether, in a random yet realistic fashion, even if the perspective is sometimes lost, in small almost invisible amounts. textures are also very well made, showing there was attention to details such as the reflections, shadows and general behavior of different materials. Focusing on the creature itself, the glows and shades on the copper-like parts are very well achieved, enhancing a sense of depth and bringing out the character.

Speaking of tones and colors, there is a somewhat excessive amount of whites and shades of gray throughout the piece, making the main point of focus (the creature) less "important" in the general composition. On the other hand, the warm tones balance out, in some points, the coldness of the gray. Such elements are the candle, the metals and the eye of the creature.

As a specific element, apart from the creature, I must point out the flask of ink, which has a very particular feel to it through texture and light and dark zones, giving out curious but very pleasant warm brown/red shades vs. cold almost blue lights.

Amazing setting It's like some scribe or poet jumped back when a raptor hopped onto his desk and knocked over the inkwell. Well, actually, I'm almost certain that's what happened, judging from the streaked line on the page and where the quill is left. The candle is a nice touch in making it a lived in area, kinda needed, since the pages on the desk are fresh and the scroll looks recent(isn't dusty). Actually, the scroll looks like a letter, possibly sent accompanying with the steampunk raptor?

I'm very big on that color scheme, the copper vertebrae/joints and winding crank match very well against the white casing. The feet look pretty clean considering the pool of ink they've been traversing, I'd have expected a little more visible sign on the raptor.

The body positioning is cutely awkward.

But I know it's not really only cute. Those mechanisms are clearly filled with malace, and this creature thrives off of the disturbing of writers... or worse.
