Description
For the C.O.W (creature of the week) on conceptart. The task was to draw a creature for the famous wizard Merlin.
Name: Scath
Information for the creature: This little creature is especially useful for studies late at night. It can glow much brighter than a normal candle, if itβs needed (which is a big reduction of the danger of burning valuable books and notices, because of an accident with a candle). Beside this prized little ability, it is also very intelligent and can help its master to work out plans. The wings are far too small to fly around, but they can also turn into bright glowing parts- it can fly nonetheless, but it would need the help of magic.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a critique, it's really appreciated!
I'm really happy you like this artwork that much- when I started to draw this for the weekly contest on Conceptart I was a little bit planless. I knew I wanted to draw something with light and something rather small and unusual. At first, I wanted to go more into something humanoid, but then I got this- a two headed creature which glows and started to refine it.
I also discover a new way to color something and the colors turned out much more lively then they usually do in my pictures
Again, thanks for the critque!

Your welcome. You would not believe the typos when I finished. I had to paste it into Word and fix it there. There was some very strange words that snuck in that weren't really words. It was actually pretty funny to see the butchering of "different" that I came up with.
This was for Conceptart? Cool. I've never tried their contests out before, but I've seen some pretty stunning images inspired by them, yours most certainly included.
Planless stuff sometimes turns out really nice.
I like how you coloured it. It's a very unique style and very interesting to look at.
You're welcome!

Yeah.. Word is always a great for correcting some of the most obvious mistakes (although it don't see everything either)- I always read through the whole text several times if it's really important for me that it's more or less correct in the end.
Yep, it was for the weekly challenge on Conceptart (not really a contest, since you can't really win something except for a little bit experience of course) You could check it out here if you want: [link]

Aww, thanks again!

I can honestly say I wasn't expecting that. But after reading the description and thinking about it, the creature changed from "Ew! What is that??" to "Oh my gosh, he's so pretty!!" :3 Seriously, ther colors are magnificent and there seems to be a whole new secontion of him that I hadn't noticed everything I look back at the glowing creature. I think it suits Merlin perfectly.

Really nice! I love it! And from your description, it looks like it would be more usefull to Merlin than any other familiar.

Hi! I love the art. I hope you don't mind, but I'll be using this in a set of personal cards for use by myself and friends. They won't be sold, and you will be credited on the card. If you have an objection to this personal use, let me know, and I'll change the picture to something else. Thanks!

As long as you use it just for you and your friends and you don't gonna sell it, it's perfectly okey for me

It's so adorable! Bookworms and scholars would love it too! even if it didn't have geko-grip, you could still put it on your shoulder and it's obviously an intelligent creature capable of human linguistics if it can help work out plans too. I want one and I usually read from a well lit LCD screen. The fact that it has muscle-colored/textured hide gives it a vaguely grotesque appearance that assures very few children will be wanting one while the horns, pincers, claws and two mouths likely full of sharp teeth would keep parents from getting them for said kids. What would you say it would eat?
I do wonder though, does its two heads both contain a brain?
As for movement, I imagine it would carry most of its weight with its forelegs while hopping between the back legs and the tail legs.

Hehe, thank you!
I would have been probably one of those few children wanting such a pet Well, what would it eat? I think it would love to eat mushrooms, but surely also wouldn't say no to some meat... a little bit of an omnivore^^
I thought that one head would be more for the basic things like moving around and stuff like that, while the other head could concentrate on thinking and working some plans out
Hehe, it would be surely quite strange to see it moving around^^

Agreed- I think it would have some problems to walk around somehow with legs like that, but.. somehow I still hope it might work somehow
I'm glad you like the colors

oh man! This is the best thing i ever saw you do so far... I love the alien look to the picture and the choice of colors. Might want to think about adding some kind of background instead of blackness (cause i know you can!)

Thank you so much!
Yeah, you're absolutely right about the background- but this was an entry for a weekly challenge and the alien design already needed a long time to draw so I needed to hurry with the background- that's why I didn't really draw a good background
