I mean, yeah, it's impossible to respect someone if they don't respect you, at least for me. It just makes you look like a pushover. I'd like to think I'm mellow to people who treat my opinion with value. I don't feel bad for disrespecting people who look down on my views, though.
Like it or not, everyone is created equal. There is no natural, or given, quality that can make someone's opinion more "correct". You need to beat that into people's brains nowadays..
