This is relatively what I look like... just make the nose bigger.
That hair gave me a headache...

I remember seeing your portrait there, and I went, "Agh! Jess is here! But she isn't, really..."
I really did.
Anyway.
This looks amazing. The detail you put into it is wonderful. I remember doing these in grade 11, and mine was atrocious. I did a profile view, and it looked bizarre. I had so much trouble with my hair, and kept going over and over it that it turned out black and flat-looking. Then to try and rescue it the drawing, I stuck a rose in the bottom right corner, knowing VERY WELL that I can't draw roses!

I wish I could have hung out with you there, it was rather boring and kind of embarrassing be with Ms. Galuoppo. -_-;
*laughs* Sorry to hear your self-portrait. I think all of us tried really hard, but non of us captured our own looks. Its hard enough doing a realistic portrait, but to do our own...TT_TT. You can't really sense it from the comments, but I don't like the drawing. I only put it up becuase of the amount of effort I put it into *sob* Why does it never turn out right? Where you had problems with the hair, I had with the eyes and nose.
About yours-- A profile view, that's cool. None of us did anything unique besides stick our faces on the paper... Marlena did put something of a background though... I remember you guys had all this crazy backgrounds, and little items around the face, and now I know you did different viewing positions. Though I'm wondering-- Why did you pick a rose among all flowers?

For your big one you could
a. scan it in parts and piece it together on photoshop
or
b. take a picture of it in good lighting
but you should get that big one up here too. I wanna try doing a self portrait again. havent done one in years!

well done, proportions=good, shading is good, all is good, maybe experiment with a background in the future? but sometimes it is better without one, upto ur discretion

I personally don't think the proportions are good, but then my personal image of myself is probably interfering with my judgement.
i actually have another self-portrait... its gigantic, but because I spent so much more time on it, I think it is a ot better than this. I just don't know how to put it on DA because of its gigantic-ness.
