Calem is a thoughtful, quiet bird whose interests lie with medicine, peoplewatching, and music. Though he can hold a pleasant conversation with no trouble, he rarely speaks unless spoken to directly, preferring to observe. More often than not, Calem is too busy to chat anyway- he's working through medical school and that often leaves him drained. If he's out and about, chances are he's brought his laptop bag and a few notebooks with him, ready to chip away at his homework. He's often seen with large headphones, but only listens to his EDM playlist 50% of the time... The other 50%, he just wears them so you won't talk to him.
Calem is a huge fan of electronic music and the cybergoth aesthetic (typically characterized by neon colors against more traditional goth styles). You'll often find him tucked in a café booth for hours on end, sipping his third cup of coffee and eating undue amounts of desserts, or occasionally browsing music stores. "Reserved" and "Tactful" are perhaps the two best words to describe his demeanor: He'd rather you leave him alone unless you're working with him or need him to move over, but if you do talk to him, he'll be courteous and kind. Calem is a gentleman at heart... He won't pry into your business, won't gossip about you, and will hold open doors when he sees you coming. If he sees you around then he might follow up with you about a previous conversation, but it will be on his own time.
Calem lives in a sharehouse with Riley (his twin and roommate), Lindy (a flying pig with whom he matched well with on a compatibility test for the housing and very quickly befriended), Miles (Lindy's brother who thinks he's cool but sabotages himself with lame quips), Leona (a fabulous boa with fabulous style), and Sekhmet (a jaguar who tends to do her own thing but enjoys her housemates' company). Occasionally Lindy and Calem attend poetry readings at the Willow City library. He's more into flash fiction than poetry, and when he has something to share, he'd rather share it with a crowd he knows has a dark sense of humor. He takes no prisoners when it comes to imagery.

~ HISTORY ~
Calem (born Jordan) hatched alongside his twin (Riley) in a big city to the north. He never knew his mother as she left shortly after laying their egg. Calem's and Riley's father made enough money to afford a higher-end apartment, though he was rarely around and tended to make decisions for his sons without asking them or thinking much about opportunities. As a result, neither participated in sports or school extracurriculars, and they instead spent their afternoons at the library. As they grew up, they began exploring more shops in the city and developing their identities: Calem discovered a love of music and health sciences while Riley drifted towards board games and roleplaying.
When the twins were five, their dad married a partridge named Owen, bringing a step-dad into their life. Owen tends to be a bit overly "hip" and "cool" and a little touchy-feely for Calem's liking (though Riley endorses it), but they get along okay. Simple family, peaceful life. Calem has never had any interest in seeking out his birth mother and is content to look towards the future rather than the past.
The twins left home for different universities in their early 20s and have since reunited in Lilypad to get their bearings... Away from their dads, but not TOO far away. Through it all, Calem and Riley have had each other and are very close.
Calem was the first to arrive in Lilypad, a few months after the grand re-opening. He took an online compatibility test, met Lindy, and ever since then they've been living in a sharehouse. The place is decked out in goth aesthetic, along with some more fantasy touches that Riley added after joining his brother in 2020. Calem regularly circles the local cafes, but spent most of those two years shut inside to focus on his schooling.
Now that 2021 has arrived, Calem is starting to poke out his head. He'd still rather keep to himself, but he hopes to become more involved in the community. Along with visiting bookshops and cafes, he also enjoys riding Pepper's boat. Though he prefers not to fish himself (and can't digest fish anyway), he claims the rocking of the boat is inspiring and feels that fish are his current muse. You're far more likely to catch Calem outdoors on a dreary day than a sunny one- he loves stormy days.
