Description A simple gun drawing tutorial. Download for the best view.

Done by my new tablet, which I'm not really good with. It's really unrefined. It's also an over-simplication. Done in a simple one point perspective. All of these steps could also be used in 2 point (3 dimensional) as well but since 2 point is a bit difficult, it's not good to explain basics.

Done at the request of

Sorry it took so long, I got a new game...

When did you do this? (/confused)
Well, this is fairly useful, actually. I must've missed it. (sigh)
So, got any other useful tuts like this? :3

I did this when I was still in high school, years ago.

This is actually my most popular picture, with easily the most views and favorites of all time.

I feel bad though, it really is sub par in quality.

Yeah, that's how I found it. Seeing as there's some kinda chart thing on our pages, I checked yours to see which dev of yours was most viewn.
Either that or most faved. It was one of those two. xD
But, at least it's useful, yeah?
Come to think of it, I've never done any tuts on this account. Not that I'd have anything worthy to tutorial from my knowledge. xD

~Shadow R/B
Maybe kemonomimi tutorial, but yeah, not much...
Oh, I finished Ether and Ryoku's plushies today~. Geez, it's tiring. xD
Ah, but I'll definitely have to fix Kagetora's outfit and finish Rouge's one day. Maybe next week. I get Thursday and Friday off.

Btw, do you know what's required for an art portfolio? TT.TT

Nope, Art portfolios are dependent on what their goal is and where they are being marketed. I never had to make one since I'm never applying to any art position. But if you need to make one, you need to find out directly from where you are applying what they want to see from a portfolio.

I found out today that the Faculty of ARTS doesn't require one. Faculty of FINE ARTS does.
This is where confusion sprouted from. Least I don't have any extra art work I NEED to do, now.

~Shadow R/B
Was stressing for about a week on this. Phew, right? :3
But, thanks for your help~.
(And if you're wondering, the two faculties are different things. Arts is stuff like psychology and forensics (as far as I know), while Fine Arts is what you'd think of when you hear "Art.")
English is a weird friggin' language, I'm finding. xD

So, might be a good thing.
And, I may get to take a psychology course, or even forensics. So, it could be fun. :3

Lol that's a unique twist on types of doctors.

More knowledge vs. more compassion. Then again, Canada's healthcare is different from U.S. so I can't really say. Doctors get paid way too much over here.

I keep hearing that Canada is desperate for more of certain medical experts, cus they take a cheaper educational cost at the best universities we've got here, then go to the US because of the higher wages. xD
In short: The govn't isn't getting their money back... xP

Not like I actually go to a doctor a lot anyways. Costs $40 or so per visit? According to what I last heard from ma when I asked her, anyways.
That was a few years back, tho, so... (/shrug)
Probably costs a lot more without Medicare.

Well, I hear it has some of the best paying jobs in Canada, or something like that.
But, living there is really expensive. Where our gas prices are 99.9 to 107.9 or something like that (it varies), theirs, last time I was there, was around 137.9 or so...

So yeah. Wonder what the lifestyles there are like.

Y'know, we almost went to the US when we were in BC. Apparently, it's close to Seattle or something? (/forgot)
But, since ma and I didn't have our passports yet, we couldn't go. :/

Still was a fun trip, tho. Even if my mood was bad for a lot of it.

~Shadow R/B
My aunt doesn't like some of the music I've taken to listening to due to their dark natures. Neither does ma, but when my aunt chewed ma out for "allowing" me to listen to it...
Sheesh, nice docks or not, you can bet I was upset.
Actually, I think I kinda had something akin to a moral conflict for the rest of the time we were down there. I mean, I like dark songs and such, even if I don't always get the meaning behind it.
But, the way she reacted... Man, I haven't seen her get upset like that before. :/

So yeah, the trip was mixed... :/

Anybody is entitled to listen to anything they like.

Suppressive parents and family members are the reason some people grow up never experiencing anything. People like that try to hide reality and it only ends up hurting the one being suppressed later in life.

My mom never censored me, what I played, what I listened to, or what I saw. And I turned out fine.

(/points to self) Way too late to start that lecture! xD
But yeah, much guilt was had. In the end, I decided that so long as I never hurt anything cus of the songs, I was set.
But both her and my mom hate it, I'm sure. When I mentioned to an uncle that I like dark songs and went to hug ma, she told me I should "smarten up".
I mean, yeah, it's not something you really tell anyone. But how else would I word it?

I'm too blunt sometimes. That, and my mouth likes to run before I can check stuff over in my head sometimes. xD

Hm, but I've been called a pessimist for a very long time.
I just don't like insanely flowery things. They bore me most of the time. There's always an exception, but a sugary-sweet view of the world is just WAAAY too naΓ―ve for my liking. :/

It's easy to lose faith in the human species if you study history and literature. But my faith in human intelligence and ambition has been renewed ever since going into the higher level sciences.

Science and math has become so unbelievably complex that once you step foot in it, it's hard to question human progress. Humans are brilliant, but unfortunately its the stupid ones that dictate society and history.

I'm just starting my introduction to circuits and I already feel like that will take years upon years to understand.

But it's okay, everyone is entitled to their own views. I haven't lost faith in the human condition, I just try my best to avoid the lower end of the spectrum.

I recall feeling really awed whenever I started getting a few things in math and the science courses I've taken. I mean, math is my weakest point, and to start understanding it made me think about how easily some people got these sort of things... Says a lot about human progression, right?
Then I come across pointless crap where you just need to memorize formulas for an otherwise senseless idea... And all that goes down the drain. xD

You free anything soon? I need help with math, and my uncle V is unreliable as hell. :/

No kidding. Eh, well, I try hard not to generalize a group of people. That's hard when I'm in school where everyone's some kind of a moron, but hey. xD
(Everyone has their derp moments. Some more than others, but hey.)

~Shadow R/B
I'm not really interested in people too much. Just trying to keep my math grade going up.
It's a 45% average so far, so this isn't going well. :/

Well the formulas are actually there to save time when doing a problem. If we didn't have these relationships, you would need to logically derive them every time you did a problem, and some math proofs are a pain in the ass to recreate, especially when you get into calculus.

I can try in help in math, you are in trigonometry right?

~Shadow R/B
No kidding, but what we're doing right now, some of my elder relatives said it literally makes no sense, but they're easily solved with formula memorization.
So, if I'm not using it in the future (said to me literally), WHY THE BALLS DO I NEED TO KNOW IT? (/cries)

Why bother? Programs can do that now. Programs can do math too. But will you rely on computers for everything? Knowing math means you can communicate and understand computers. Knowing math, english, and all these other things is what prevents human beings from being obsolete to their own creation.

BoltFraction [2010-03-24 05:46:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, since you mentioned it, there's actually a difference between a clip and a magazine~!

A "magazine" has the rounds completely enclosed by a metal shell, as in most modern assault rifles. (Actually, most modern firearms, for that matter)

A "clip" has the rounds exposed, like the "stripper clips" of older bolt-action rifles with internal box magazines.

Airsoft can teach you interesting things, sometimes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opengunner In reply to BoltFraction [2010-03-25 19:33:32 +0000 UTC]

I thought they were interchangeable, but I guess i learned something new. Though I've always heard of the MP40's magazine referred to as clips. I pretty sure soldiers use them interchangeably, like my dad, because sometimes he says both.

What airsoft guns do you have?

I've got an AK-47, an M1 Thompson, a Baretta M9, an M1911A1, a FAMAS, an M16A2, a SPAS-12, an MP5, a P90, and a riot shotgun.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BoltFraction In reply to Opengunner [2010-03-25 20:08:12 +0000 UTC]

H-how did you afford all those?!

Do you know how expensive these things are in Canada? If you want full metal AEG from a reliable brand name, you're looking at $500-600 at least.

And that's only if you can get you're hands on one! Strict gun laws make it near impossible to get your hands on anything that aren't flimsy Wal-Mart clearsoft guns. While full full-color or full metal guns are not illegal, no supplier carries them for fear of lawsuit should someone do something stupid with one. You need a prohibited goods license even to get one across the boarder!

I've been to 10 or so games using only rental equipment. To get my own gear, at the very base requirements, would run me near $2000. I was looking at an M14 A4 Carbine for a while, but then the website conveniently decided to make all their full-metal guns unavailable for sale to civilians.

Being an airsofter in Canada sucks. Badly.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opengunner In reply to BoltFraction [2010-03-25 21:48:56 +0000 UTC]

I forgot to mention they're simple springers...

Well, they aren't "simple" except the SPAS. I got the riot shotgun at Walmart (A store I know hate, but that's for other reasons) and it ain't all that bad. Since I'm not from Canada, I don't have to deal with your problems. But i can tell you how much each of my guns cost.

My FAMAS by DoubleEagle was like 30$ off of EBAY. i have no idea of an actual FPS but i think it's 350 fps. It's my strongest gun.

My M1 Thompson was 80$ and it was a Chirstmas gift from my mom. It has UNBELIEVABLE accuracy.

My AK-47 was 80$ and I bought that after I went through the whole 'MGS3 has an AK-47, now I want one' thing. I was working during summer and it seemed like a good idea at the time. It's a fully auto AEG and it commands respect. Not very strong, but very loud and fast. It has a metal shell too. very realistic. But it was a Tokyo Marui knockoff from Ebay.

My Spas 12 was my 3rd airsoft gun ever. It was about 30$ and was a gift from my step father. It's decent in every respect.

My M1911A1 is made of Metal and cost 30$ on ebay. It's my most recent gun. It's alright, more of a show off than an actual combatant.

My Baretta M9 was 30$ also a gift from my step father and it has great power, but the magazine is kind of broken so it's harder to load.

My M16 was from the same summer of the AK-47 because it was also In MGS3. It was 30 $ off of ebay and it's a nice weapon. It's a Well's series.

My MP5 was a gift and I was never told of it's price. It's decent, and comes with a wanna be red sight

My P90 was 30$ and it's kind of crappy. As a matter of fact, it's more of a model than anything. But let me tell you, holding the P90 AUTOMATICALLY makes somebody more badass.

Oh, and I have a Revolver too. It's my favorite gun. I got it off of ebay and it's VERY weak, but it's the only springer i know that can fire with one hand. it was 30$ i believe on Ebay.

lol I hope you didn't get the impression that I'm this really rich kid. I got my first gun the barretta M9, when I was 12 years old and I'm 17 now. I've actually had more guns but my friends always manage to break them. My friends got tired of airsofting though so they don't see too much action anymore.

Oh, and I had a red dot sight at one time but the battery died... And I had a full metal pistol but one of my friends broke it...

I had a lot of fun airsofting, but this 2000 bucks thing, i never did. I had enough friends and a large neighborhood to play. The cops came once but one of my older friends was there so we didn't get in trouble because we were under "supervision"

Once again, and many times over, thanks!

Whoa.... I never knew there were going to be so many different names.

Quick question - what is the magazine used for?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opengunner In reply to Kay-double-O-Zii [2010-03-22 01:01:47 +0000 UTC]

The magazine stores the ammo used in the gun. The magazine has a spring in it that pushes the bullets up as the gun fires. When people talk about reloading, they are referring to this part. Think of it as a storage box with bullets in it.

Pistols have their magazine inside the place where you grip your hand around it. A pistol magazine looks like a stick with a fat base at the bottom.

And thanks for looking at it. If you think about it, if guns were simple, then medieval Europe would have been full of people with assault rifles. Guns have come a long way. Scientifically intriguing, but politically misused.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kay-double-O-Zii In reply to Opengunner [2010-03-23 00:32:17 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see. So that's what the bullet-holder thing was. Thank you for explaining.

Guns are incredible pieces of technology. Even a small pistol holds so much firepower. However, as you said, they are sadly misused.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opengunner In reply to Kay-double-O-Zii [2010-03-23 03:01:38 +0000 UTC]

But just like everything out there in terms of a weapon, there is always something to counter it, like body armor.

If you want to know something neat, what ever the U.S. Military invents, it does so while simultaneously inventing something to counter it. The U.S. is prepared, even if another country gets its hands on one of their weapons. Heat seeking rockets? countered by flares. Laser guided? Countered by Chaff...

Gotta give them credit, they design with the intention that somebody will try to steal their weapons.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kay-double-O-Zii In reply to Opengunner [2010-03-25 23:10:36 +0000 UTC]

Thinking ahead... Very nice. In all reality, I like designing weapons - from katanas to guns (although my guns had sucked until now).

But I've never thought of a counter - I should try that, too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opengunner In reply to Kay-double-O-Zii [2010-03-26 03:07:32 +0000 UTC]

Well if you draw anything that already exists, there is a counter for it. Like the Katana wouldn't fair so well against chain-mail. The only sword good against Chain mail is a broad sword like the Claymore. The claymore was like a club which could knock the person in armor down, and then you could finish them off on the ground by driving the sword into them.

The only thing that has never been countered is the Grenade. That useful little rock can do anything, it just depends on the person using it. if you think about the concept of the grenade, it's almost childish. It's something you throw at someone and after a certain amount of time, it explodes. Imagine that, modern soldiers today are still THROWING things. No high-tech gadgets, just a little rock with a timer.

Then main thing to remember about guns is that the barrel is the skeleton and you should build everything around that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kay-double-O-Zii In reply to Opengunner [2010-03-26 23:11:45 +0000 UTC]

Barrel is the skeleton - got it.

It would be interesting to see a counter for grenades. But I love the concept of grenades - it works very well for funny plays.
Who knew the caveman was so smart?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Opengunner In reply to Kay-double-O-Zii [2010-03-27 19:22:30 +0000 UTC]

There is a counter for a grenade, but only under special circumstances. A riot shield made of explosive proof metal. Unfortunately, it's unwieldy and heavy. On top of that, if the grenade lands behind you or you are unaware of it, it won't work.

Cavemen were pretty smart. They were able to survive this long, that's why we are here today. If the cavemen would have failed, we wouldn't be here.
