True...unless you ask in faith through his Son. The watch in the wilderness means nothing to you I guess. Sad.

Beautiful. Meaningful. Oh so deep. I love the detail on this--the reflection of the dried earth in the gold of the watch. All your pieces are so perfectly rendered...but this one really calls to me.

Holy-grail-esque. So cool

Do not take offense to this as I mean none, but I have seen bits and pieces of the concept and this picture in many other works. I know I've heard those four questions before, but I have no idea where. Such is as it goes when you read and listen a lot. I think it is the sky and the celestial light that conjure up my memories of the Neverending Story, honestly.

My question for you as the artist is simple. Do you have an answer to those four questions?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Operaghost1 In reply to LazarCotoron [2005-05-25 02:20:32 +0000 UTC]

The questions are from Karl Jaspers, an existential philosopher. The painting IS my answer to all four questions. I always thought that maybe my thoughts were overly obvious, but I guess not. Study the imagery and tell me what you think I might be trying to say. Hint: I'm not an existentialist.

As for seeing bits of it in other works, I'd love to see them as this is all my own work, based solely on photos, most of which I took myself.

I believe it's all your own. It just all looks familiar to me somehow. Then again, so did the Oracle at Delphi the first time I saw a picture of it. *shrug* Like I said, don't take it the wrong way. I'm NOT saying you copied anyone!

Now, the sky for instance... I've seen something similar on the covers of the 'Left Behind' series of books. Obviously, the covers are different and such, but that's what it calls to my mind immediately. But let's be honest.. cataclysmic skies with prismatic colors as if to signify hope is not exactly uncommon imagery.

The central temple like shrine reminds me of the Neverending Story... Specifically, I think it reminds me of the Oracle. Remember, an image can conjure up millions of things in a viewer, and what one person sees in it, another person may miss entirely to see something else.

The people fading to sand, as if they were mortal men who'd just seen the face of god... Reminds me very specifically of what I see in my mind when I think back to when I read that in the Bible the first time.

The watch is an out of place element in my estimations. Were I the one to have placed that object in that picture, that is why I would do so. Obviously, I'm not you. Watches... especially in stills like this, are commonly used to represent either that time is finite and it's our finite vision that makes it seem infinite (art scholar babble there, heh), or, more in my estimations, to show that we make a big deal out of something that doesn't really matter.

Concerning your challenge? Well... I'd need to look very deeply at it and try to clear away my thoughts to see your own. Given enough time, these things do speak themselves out. Quite honestly, it's been a while since I looked at art with a message. I'll get back to you on that.

Just wonderful!
Kind of sad how many objects remind me of anime. Such as the pocket watch reminds me of Full Metal Alchemist.

OMGs! I own that pocket watch! (The face in mine’s different though)
This is truly breathtaking, the lighting and emotion in the piece just overwhelming and I adore the two figures sort of emerging from the soil, desperately reaching towards what I can only guess is the light of knowledge and truth. The watch is also a neat piece of imagery, I think it must represent some sort of eternity, like that we’ll ask these questions forever, yet not amount of time shall lead to their answers. I really, really like this one, you’re incredibly talented. ^___^

Of course, time ends the search for these infinitely unanswerable questions.

I find the detail really quite amazing. I especially like the detail on the watch which looks almost if not totally, photoreal.
