Description

So...remember this ? And this ? And this ? Well, it only took me 10 goddamned years but I DID IT. I finally did it. I made my own version of HorrorClix. With blackjack, and hookers, and every monster and theme I wanted.

You can watch a video about the process here: youtu.be/f4zPhUm6BHg

In the video description you'll also find the link to download the rules and everything you need to play the game (except for miniatures)!

The rules themselves are based on another free game called WarStuff which is super simple and fun to play. I ended up going with 13 sets/groups of monsters, and did illustrations for each set. I figured this collage would be easier than uploading a bunch of separate deviations that all say the same thing. I talk about the sets in the video but I guess I'll explain a little bit here as well.

The Things That Go Bump in the Night - Vampires, werewolves, ghosts, mummies, all your classic monsters.

Mad Science and Evil Experiments -Most of the sci-fi monsters are here. Robots, aliens, mad scientists, that sort of thing.

Man Killers and Killer Men -These are the 'real' and historical monsters. Serial Killers like Jack the Ripper or the Zodiac Killer, and dangerous animals like lions and tigers and bears.

Cryptozoology: Hidden Creatures -Cryptids! Obviously. There was no way this wasn't going to be a set.

Urban Legends -There's a lot of grey area between urban legends and folklore and mythology, so I mostly grouped them by cultures/time periods. So this one is more recent creatures like creepypastas, SCP, alien sightings.

Forbidden Folklore and Tall Tales - This one I tried to stick with post-medieval, like 1600s-1800s sort of range. Lumberjack monsters/fearsome critters, Japanese yokai, Native American myths.

Monsters of Myth -These are more of the 'classical' monsters, from like Greek and European mythology. Cyclops, dragons, manticores, that sort of thing.

Heroes, Hunters, and Monster Slayers -The game is mainly monster v monster but I had to add some heroes into the mix! Ash from Evil Dead, Buffy, famous characters and also archetypes (like the priest, the firefighter, etc)

The Greatest Show Unearthed - Circus! I have so many figures from HorrorClix's circus set, this one is almost just a direct translation.

Eldritch Abominations - Lovecraft! Not so much the godlike beings, by sheer difference in power scales, but most of his other creations.

A Night at the Movies - Movie monsters! This one when through SO many iterations. I moved some movie characters to other categories (like heroes and sci-fi) and I still left so many out! But it's a mix of popular monsters and niche ones that I'm really fond of.

Virtual Violence -Video games! Mostly DOOM, Left 4 Dead, and Resident.

Dungeons & Death - More Dungeons and Dragons/non-mythological fantasy. Mindflayers, mimics, that sort of thing.

So yeah. This has obviously been in the work (to one degree or another) for literal years now and I am so thrilled and excited it actually exists and is done. Now that I have a 3d printer and am more into crafting and painting and everything, I've already made a few dozen monsters, and I plan on making some spooky themed terrain as well. I'll just have to remember to take pictures and actually share it all in the future.

Oh and I guess I should actually talk about the art itself. I was very much inspired by Runehammer, the artist who illustrates all of OnePageRules' games. So I tried to go more simple, with thick lines and heavy shadows. It was mostly experimental for me but I really like how they all came out.
