I'll put WINGS... on my BACK legs.

You know what the hardest part of submitting these comps is? Making the intro blurbs...

I have to say this is probably one of my favorite comps to date, the spacing between the creatures is just right, and the creatures featured were also a lot of fun to draw. This also brings in yet another new category, W for Wings. The wings project was kind of a proto-Pterraforming in a way, but instead of focusing entirely on Pterrearth it instead focused on speculative winged tetrapods, which in turn gave rise to the pterasimians. I kinda wanna update the project, since most of it I made back in 2014, so I'll probably be making more stuff with it. In the meantime, the CCs are a perfect place to give a preview of what the updated creatures will look like (more or less, nothing on the comps is final). So yeah, Creature Comps is finally back to a multiple of three!

F = Fakemon, P = Pterraforming, L = Lucid, R = Requests or fan art (Mostly fan art, F was already taken)T = Terraria, and yet another new category W = Wings

1: [Lucid] I... don't have a name for this yet... It was a weird purple and blue blob worm thing I saw in a field in a dream a few years ago. It kinda just... moseyed along... poking the ground with it's weird extendable pointy mouth and walking with its stretchy stick legs. It was quite large, standing about as tall as a lab, and was very, very long. I didn't interact with it much, since in the dream I was dealing with a much, much bigger worm that wanted to unalive me real bad, but galaxy worm boi seemed quite peaceful. It was kinda cute honestly. In Lucid it'll probably just be a passive creature the player can come across randomly during Tier 3, just one of those things that just exist. They could probably be attacked/killed, but there wouldn't be much reason to do so, and given it's a harmless passive creature attacking it would probably heighten the player's stress. Tier 3 is pretty hostile though, so the player would probably be focusing on trying to fight off something else when they encounter it anyways.

2: [Wings] A redesigned alacaversamadid from my old winged tertrapod project. Descended from the strange leg gliding sharovipteryx (or close kin), alacaversamadids are unique in that they fly with their back legs rather than front, with highly modified anatomy to support this strange adaptation. Notably, the femur is fused into place, acting as a makeshift scapula for the leg, and the fibula is rotated back towards the pelvis and fused with the immobile femur to help brace the structure, essentially creating a pseudo-scapulocoracoid . The tibia (foreleg) then acts like a pseudo-humerus, and the tarsals/metatarsals (tarsometatarsus , fused foot bones) act as a pseudo-ulna/radius. To help support the wing membrane, several tail vertebrae (caudal vertebrae) and pelvis are fused into a stiff, rigid structure, which also acts to support the leg muscles. In turn, the caudalfemoralis (the muscle that pulls the leg back in most non mammals which runs along the tail) is attached to the tibia instead of the femur, acting as the main down stroke muscle. The arms and tail both are used for support while walking on the ground, the wings folding neatly above the shoulder.

3: [Lucid] The carpet tapeworm, a nasty monster/parasite found in buildings in Tier 3 Lucid. Parasites are a major component of Tier 2 and 3, being a huge phobia of the player. Likewise, many strange and non-existent parasites can be encountered by the player, causing their stress and fear to rise and threaten to infect the player, which causes pain and fear. With the carpet tapeworm, the player is most likely to encounter them indoors, mostly on carpets (hence the name). The main risk then is getting the body segments into the mouth, although thankfully this is hard to do. Carpet tapeworms will crawl along the floor similar to real tapeworm segments , looking for a place to dry out and split (releasing eggs) or for an animal such as a dog or child to eat them. Unlike most tapeworms, they do not grow into the long ropy monsters most people are familiar with, instead growing to about 8-10 segments and living in colonies in the intestines. When conditions are right, carpet tapeworms will crawl out of the anus of the victim and fall to the floor, waiting for a new host to repeat their life cycle.

4: [Fakemon] Dinopillar, the basic stage of a two-stage dragon bug line. Much less common than other bug types, Dinopillar can be valuable as an early game Dragon type, being weaker than most dragon types but making up for it with it's accessibility. Dinopillar are based off of the colorful white-marked tussock moth caterpillar , and like their real world counterpart possess tufts of painful stinging hairs along the length of their bodies, which break off and embed themselves in the skin when touched. They also possess hard horns and spikes on their head, back, and tails, making them quite tough for a bug type. They mostly feed on the leaves of trees in the apple ("Leppa") family, and can be major pests to orchards and ornamental plants. When attacked, Dinopillars will fiercely fight back, flailing their head and abdomens at foes and raising their stinging spines towards their attackers. Due to their stinging hairs, trainers are unable to pet them, and therefore would not be able to be pet in the "affection" function.

5: [Lucid] An elephantoid giant, a creature that can be rarely encountered in caves in late Tier 3 of Lucid. Now, originally I dreamed these were part of a strange mod in Minecraft, something I dream about a lot since I mess with mods a lot, but their appearance in Lucid will probably have to be changed due to copyright reasons (unless part of a Minecraft reference type thing). Bipedal sentiosapient members of the elephant family, elephantoid giants probably split off early in elephant evolution when quadrupedalality would have been more flexible. Why they developed bipedality in the first place, however, is a mystery. Like humans they can use their hands to grasp and manipulate objects, however their hands are less dexterous than humans, so they need to use their trunks in combination with them. Due to their resemblance to a giant human, it's quite possible they could have been mistaken as so in the past within the realms in which they exist. Elephantoid giants are capable of tool use and are capable of building structures, although their extremely low numbers mean they rarely build large complex structures like multi-storied buildings. They live multi-family units, often in large cave structures in which they carved out themselves. In Lucid, they are passive to the player, although will fight back if attacked. Due to their large size and high damage, it is not recommended to fight them.

6: [Lucid] The thorny mutibear (MYOO-tih-BARE), a creature of ROT, and one of the first CoR the player encounters. First encountered during an event triggered by the player finding a mutibear skull (in which the player tries to figure out what the heck it came from since the teeth were all wrong) in which a living individual will eventually attack the player. Like most CoR, mutibears are covered in sharp bony spines that pierce through the muscle/skin and grow in all directions, both causing the animal pain and causing contact damage when touched. The hairs are also stiff and quill like, and the whole body is covered in ROT residue, meaning contact both causes high levels of damage and has a high likelihood of infecting the player with ROT. Mutibears also posses many extra pairs of twisted, deformed limbs and body parts such as mouths, teeth, claws, etc, meaning they have a greater amount of weaponry the player has to dodge. All creatures of ROT are extremely hostile, and will often attack the player on sight. When attacking, Mutibears will slash with their claws and bite with their mouths, and will attempt to impale or slam the player with their body. Ranged attacks are a must for combat, as any physical or close ranged attacks will result in large amounts of damage and the high probability of infection.

7: [Lucid + Pterraforming] The candysnail, a brightly, unusually colored species of amber snail native to subtropical areas of the southern US of Pterrearth. While most amber snails are, well, amber in color, the candysnail can come in multiple bright colors such as red, orange, green, and even rare colors like purple or blue. They live in areas with high amounts of moisture, mostly staying in shaded, cool areas. At night they will often congregate in search of food, and can often be found on the sides of houses or sidewalks (Lucid) feeding on the concrete. Candysnails seem to be immune to the zombie-snail parasite and can safely consume infected material without the risk of contacting the disease. Like all amber snails the shell is extremely thin and brittle, and candy snails rarely live more than a season. Important to note is that the colors the candysnail possesses is in the actual body, not the shell, so combined with their fragile shells are poor choice for collectors.

8: [Fan Art + Fakemon] The basic form of the grass starter centaur from CCR6 , unfortunately I haven't come up with a lot of information for it yet (including a name), although being based on knights/squires it would probably revolve around that. Knowing Pokemon it'd probably be super brave and would be eager to get stronger, like a squire in training. Would likely be a pure grass type.

9: [Lucid] The Noodlemander, a very strange creature than can unravel itself into threadworm like strands when threatened, and then wind itself back together when the danger passes. Obviously this makes absolutely no anatomical sense (where would the bones go? What about the organs? Would they be stretched out in the worm bits? Where would the eyes go? Do the eyes also unravel? Why would it break apart anyways? Wouldn't it be riskier to fall apart into worms? How the hell would it put itself back together? Is it a worm shaped like an amphibian, or an amphibian that becomes a worm like in the original dream?) so I decided to keep this guy as Lucid exclusive. They would be a passive mob that could rarely be encountered in Tier 3, mostly in wet outdoor areas. While harmless to the player normally, if the player's stress is high enough the worm form can become parasitic, abandoning the noodlemander identity completely and just becoming threadworms that will try to burrow into the player's skin. Otherwise, the noodlemander will behave like a normal lizard/salamander in its put together form and worm like in its worm form, quickly retreating out of danger into tight spaces.

10: [Pterraforming] A very hot raptor rex, the largest land predator and member of the tyrannoraptors (Australian short tail raptors) on the Australian continent of Pterrearth, here shown both panting and extending the bare patches of it's wings to cool off. Growing about the size of allosaurus, raptor rexes are fearsome apex predators that are built for quick bursts of power. Long, blade like killing claws replace the deeply recurved claws of other raptors, which actually are used for slashing like is so often [inaccurately] depicted of raptors. Raptor rexes hunt by ambushing prey, leaping out and slashing with their claws from above, using their flightless wings for stability. The slashing motion very much resembles the kicking attacks of cassowaries, often gutting or lacerating prey, which quickly bleeds out. If prey manages to escape the initial attack, all the raptor rex then has to do is follow the blood trail, walking with a head bobbing motion that helps it smell and increases its depth perception. Due to their large size, raptor rexes posses large areas of featherless patches, most notably on the legs, under the wings, on the chest/underbelly, and the underside of the tail. they also have a bare throat patch that possesses a large airsac, aiding in heat radiation. Then at night, when the heat leaves and the cold leaks in, the raptor rex simply covers its unfeathered patches with its feathered ones.

So which are your favorites? I'd love to hear! Let me know in the comments and maybe why you like them (or not, ya'll don't have to do anything if you don't want to).
