Description
So many creatures, so little time. Welcome back to the creature compilations with the fourth instalment of the series! Also the last for now, as I need to make more. This time around we have two(four if you include the bugs) Pterraforming creatures, two fakemon, and six Lucid characters/creatures.Creatures are numbered and labeled with a letter designating which project they are from.
F = Fakemon, P = Pterraforming, L = Lucid, R = Requests or fan art (Mostly fan art, F was already taken)
1: [Pterraforming] A male Redwood chistlebill. Like a giant woodpecker, the chistlebill quite literally carves out a living by chipping at wood and bark looking for food. Redwood chistlebills are the largest species, taking advantage of the massive trees for nesting and for food. Interestingly, the chistlebill makes actual permanent homes, something many pteranosimians do not do. Chistlebills will carve out large cavities in either dead or living trees, mated pairs working together to shape the hole. They then will reside in the cavity for as long as it will last, sometimes spending their entire lives in one cavity. During the day the chistlebills will look for food, then roost in their cavity at night.
2: [Fakemon] A redesign of my fakemon Wallawomp, a pure fighting type pokemon. I've been wanting another go at this guy and their evo for quite some time now, especially since they looked waaaaay too much like Lucario and Riolu. The new design is meant to look much more kangaroo/wallaby in the anatomy, along with switching from digitigrade to plantigrade (although they can still stand on their tip-toes when they need to). You can read more about Wallawomp here [Although the data there is outdated].
3: [Pterraforming] The arctic dwelling Woolly Icepeck. Unlike the mammalian primates, which are usually restricted to tropical and warm climates, the Pteranosimans have a cosmopolitan distribution, appearing on every continent in every type of habitat, including the artic and antartic. The wooly icepeck is a specially adapted New World Pteranosimian, covered in thick, fuzzy pycnofibers on all parts of its body, patagium included. With a specially downturned beak, the icepeck uses it to slam down onto frozen carcasses to break off pieces of meat to eat. It also uses it to dig through snow and vegetation in search of food.
4: [Fakemon] A redesign of my fakemon Kungfroo, evolution of Wallawomp. Like Wallawomp I wanted the new design to more accurately incorporate kangaroo anatomy, along with making the overall design resemble Lucario less (such as in the bands). One new thing to note is that there is some minor sexual dimorphism between male and female Kungfroos; females have obvious pouches that often have young Wallawomps in tow, while males lack a pouch and instead have two horizontal stripes across the stomach area. Males also have thicker arms and smaller waists. You can read more about Kungfroo here [Although the data there is outdated].
5: [Lucid] The Burgle Afronkey, a strange non-monster creature found in late tier 3. Appearing in the same dream Victor first debuted in, burgle afronkeys were apparently some kind of cousin of the flying lemurs from Avatar the last Airbender, but only the live action version. They were apparently hated as they would often act super cute to get close to people, then would steal valuable items from them and hide them in their weird afros. People would aggressively pursue these ape things in an effort to eradicate them. Apparently one of the [many] subplots of the dream was trying to get these weirdos some rights because "every animal deserves to exist".
6: [Lucid] A strange unnamed creature from my dreams, literal living plastic wrap. This was kind of a one off thing in my dreams, but is was so stinkin weird (and kind of hilarious) that it stuck with me all of these years. The thing appeared in a sort of cutscene like sequence overlooking off the side of the deck to our side yard, which at the time was all bare dirt. It looked like a piece of plastic garbage was blowing along the ground, but it was moving kinda funny, and after a second I realized that it wasn't blowing along at all, rather walking along the ground. Well, waddling at least. While it was hobbling along it briefly turned and looked at me, then went right back to marching along. That was the first and last time I ever saw it. In the game it will probably be more like a rare easter-egg, just something you might stumble on, nothing more.
7: [Lucid*] Giant tree antlion larva. Unlike the larva of most antlions, which dig tiny cone shaped pits to trap prey, the giant tree antlion is an active predator, scouring the sides of trees searching for food. While not very fast, the larva are disguised as lichen and blend in with their surroundings, allowing them to get the drop on prey. Their powerful mandibles are strong enough to crush the shells of beetles, which they voraciously prey on. At maximum size a larva can reach two inches in length, and their jaws can easily draw blood should they be disturbed. Adult giant tree antlions can reach over five inches in length, and mostly feed on other invertebrates.
*While this is labelled as Lucid, giant antlions will also appear in the Pterrafroming Project.
8: [Lucid] Blanketwings, a boss appearing in tier 2 of the game. Composed of two salmon-colored blankets held together via three safety pins, Blanketwings can create creatures out of inanimate objects to do their bidding. Their power resides in their blankets, held within by the safety pin on the neck. If this pin is removed, the energy will be released and the blankets will return to their original, lifeless state. Fearful of losing this power, BW mostly stows away in their large mansion estate, sending armies of paper and cloth creatures to protect them from the outside. They also seem to want to seize control of the surrounding area to rule over.
9: [Lucid*] A marbled longhorned ground beetle, or if that's too much of a mouthful, the MLHGB. Mimicking a true longhorn beetle, the inch-and-a-half long bodies are difficult to miss. The carapace is marbled with white, grey, and black markings, closely resembling bird guano which they are believed to mimic. When threatened, MLHGBs with launch a painful, burning liquid from the tips of their abdomens, warding off most would-be predators. They get this liquid from the formic acid on the ants they feed on, the preferred type being carpenter ants. MLHGBs also possess massive pincers, which can give a painful jab if needed.
*While this is labelled as Lucid, MLHGBs will also appear in the Pterrafroming Project.
10: [Lucid] Lotus toad, an ambush predatory monster found in marshes and swamps at Tier 3. Also known as reed frogs, lotus toads hunt by burying themselves in the mud underwater, only their flower-mimicking tails and back-lily held above water. Growing to the size of a small child, they can be quite dangerous to players. Areas can easily become overpopulated with swarms of lotus toads, often the result of their tadpole's predators being absent and thus not being kept in check. Such areas will have numerous tail flowers clumped together as the toxic toads (which cannot cannibalize each other) press together to compete for food.
