Description
when people destroy peoplethere are no faces peaceful
with that final exhalation,
limbs oh-so-naturally neatly arranged
to simulate sleep, to allow the belief in better places.
when people destroy people
it looks like road kill,
eye wide, jaws hanging in a fearful snarl,
joints loosened and limbs thrown about
like some demon broke
every
last
bone
and tossed the crumpled mess away.
when people destroy people
their bodies are not beautiful in repose;
they are rudely naked, bone barely covered in flesh,
genitals exposed to shame the souls
of the departed.
when people destroy people
you will never see the pictures of it
in high school textbooks,
you may never see it
at all --
the wide eyes of children
in bullet-holed heads, leaking brains like tears
as mothers sob, raped, shot, shot, shot.
the naked skeletal torso kneeling
in the garbage bin of the forgotten, anonymous dead,
all similar in stripes and starvation.
when people destroy people
for causes not their own,
for reasons they don't understand,
for countries they blindly follow
that is evil.

This is incredible. I have to arrange my thoughts just to get it down. You're right... War is terrible and it will continue for as long as we allow it. I'm sick of people dying for... Well, jeez, nothing. So rich people can get richer? So people with a ton of land can get more land. Sad. I love this poem though. You portrayed it well. You spoke the harsh honest truth and did not cover up a thing. Love it

I think the fact that they are dying for nothing is was bothers me the most. They just are, because they get paid, because their governments tell them to, and it makes me sad. Thank you, I'm glad you liked it.
