Description
The Favor, the Contract, the World_____________________________________________________________
All the world's a stage,
And all the men and women merely puppets;
They have their exits and their entrances,
And one puppet in its time plays many parts
And I, the Puppeteer, control them all.
_____________________________________________________________
The world becomes so dull when it becomes stagnant. No progression, no diversity, little sense of hope. I take great pleasure in ensuring that that never happens. Without me, things would be an absolute bore, as things tend to collapse on themselves should that happen.
The hero, the villain, and everything in between are under my influence. I guide the hero, I create the villains, and I give them all the illusion of freedom. Everyone is simply a puppet for my plans and amusement. But like always, there are exceptions to the rule. Even then, there is always a way to control those exceptions.
However, this story is less about my history, and more about how I joined the mysterious organization called, the Hands of Chaos. An organization fiendish beyond compare, more corrupt and tainted than the mind can imagine. It's been a while since I've played the villain. As far as things go, this is the story of how I joined the said organization.
*--*--*--*--*
It had been an ordinary day in my dimension. Some power-hungry villain trying to take over the world and countless heroes rising to save the day. Nothing new, but it helped maintained the balance of the universe. But unlike most days an ambitious woman of malicious intent decided to attempt to expand her influence into my territory.
As I sat in my chambers in the wee hours of the day, I couldn't help but notice a portal open into my world. Not like the normal ones that open randomly throughout the day to different worlds, but one that was forcefully opened specifically to my dimension.
Not wanting to be rude, I decided to greet this "visitor" personally. Holding out my hand, a tarot card appeared, levitating above my hand as spun in midair. I simply muttered, "The World", causing the card to glow and portal to open in front of me. I simply stood and walked through, with the card soon following and the portal closing behind me.
*--*--*--*--*
I came out atop a building standing over the beautiful city of Waypoint City. A marvelous achievement of unity and cooperation between many different species of many different dimensions. A symbol of the pinnacle of what the best of all species can bring to the table. Despite being as cold and harsh as I am, it is nice to have a reprieve from the chaos and discord I tend to cause.
Of course, I am not here for leisure I can assure you, as I had a 'guest' to attend to. A 'guest' I had 'seen' coming for quite some time.
"A new world full of life to corrupt. So much chaos to bring upon these insects. It will be my greatest piece of work, yet." The 'guest' spoke to herself.
"It is rude to enter another's dimension without permission, Ms. Synderfell." I calmly spoke to my 'guest'.
Myzaraphiston Ahrim Synderfell, the devil reincarnate and maker of the soul contracts. A vile and sinister woman beyond compare. Skin as green as an emerald, her hair a lovely shade of red, and black dress with high heels that left nothing to the imagination. If I still had any feelings of romance left in this body, I'd say I would find her quite attractive. But she is never one to be trusted, as I have scryed into her dark history. How absolute power absolutely corrupts, as they say. Quite fitting considering who she is.
"First off, call me the Mistress of Pain, and just how do you know my name, mor- No, you are something else entirely. Perhaps- No. Regardless, what is the name that by which you go by?" She asked me. She is able to identify me despite my host body. Interesting.
"You may call me the Oracle. All seeing scryer of fate and for hire, at your service." Despite my politeness, I do not grace her with a bow. "I know exactly who and what you are, Ms. Synderfell. So let us cut straight to the point, shall we?" Not paying any mind to how she wanted to be called.
"Mistress of Pain, fortune teller." She said with venom at the reminder to her name. "You seem to be a little too well informed to be an ordinary seer, fortune teller. Now tell me why I shouldn't wipe you off the face of existence?" She threatens me, hm? It seems her arrogance is getting the best of her.
"Simply because," I say as I vanish before her eyes and reappear directly behind her. "You cannot. If you destroy me now, I will simply come back. Despite all the power you hold, you are not a god. Something that has bothered you since the beginning of your existence."
She shows not shock, but interest and a grin. This is quite an interesting subject indeed. "You don't fear death nor hell, do you? Neither do you seem to fear me. I'm sure you'd say otherwise without your minions to help you."
So she sensed them. Perhaps this day will not be as dull as I anticipated. "Ms. Librarian, Mr. Janitor, you may come out now. And to answer your question, fear is something that only applies to something with the sense of self-preservation, Ms. Synderfell." I speak aloud as both my assistants reveal themselves and irritate the incarnate to no end.
To be polite, I should introduce my two assistants. The first being the Librarian, a demoness of sorts. Going only by her title, she is among the most powerful sorceresses the universes could ever produce. She has studied all of the arts magic can provide and has lived a long as a god, all while retaining her youth. A talented organizer and a memory beyond compare, and unofficially my secretary. Just be sure not to call her that in front of her if you wish to exist. The second of my two assistants is the Janitor. Like his name suggests, he in charge of "cleaning up the messes" of the worlds. He is the muscle and field man, with the talent to wield any weapon he can get his hands on with unparalelled skill. Unlike the librarian, he is simply a human that can challenge and best a anyone in any form of combat. Individually, they a force to be reckoned with. Together, they have the power to kill gods. The best part of it all, they are solely loyal to me, and me only. The reason why? That's a secret.
"Are you sure, boss?" The Janitor wearily asks me. I cannot blame him for his concern. Myzaraphiston is a powerful and extremely dangerous woman to deal with.
"I have situation handled, Mr. Janitor." I reply calmly.
"If you say so."
"Now, I'm sure you wish to discuss business with me, am I right, Ms. Devil?" Turning my attention to the said incarnate.
"Yes. You have implied several times that you perhaps know how to acquire the power of a god, or at least something equivalent to it. Any particular reason why or why I shouldn't start spreading my influence onto this world?" Myzaraphiston asked curiously.
"I shall answer your questions in reverse order. You cannot spread your influence simply because I and the people of this dimension will not allow it. Selling one's soul doesn't work on these people and I will interfere with every deal you attempt to make. As for phenomenal power, I may know a means of obtaining it." I reply as I let some of my intent be known.
"If you have the means, then why haven't you done so already?"
"Simply because there has not been a need, nor are the resources available in my domain. Ms. Librarian, if you'd please bring me the schematics." I explain as I gesture for my assistant to come with the said schematics.
"Yes, Mr. Oracle." She replies as she hands me the plans.
"You see, Ms. Devil," Deciding to call her by her arcana. "The machine here is the product of being the ruler of the 'World Between Worlds'. Ironically, the drawback is that I cannot build this without the heroes of my worlds finding out and I cannot gather the necessary energy to power the machine, nor do I have the necessary labor to build such a machine." I explained as I took the schematics from my assistant.
"I can't imagine you would give such a thing for free, and to what keeps you from giving me something that will only blow up in my face. What are you proposing, fortune teller." Myzaraphiston said with a hint of irritation and impatience.
"Simply a partnership, or a contract in this case. I shall give you the plans and a guarantee that the machine will work if made correctly in exchange for you to cause no harm or any of your influence to affect this universe. I will even throw in my own assistance until you've obtained your power. If either party should breach the contract, they forfeit all of their power and their own soul. Do we have a deal?"
"You seem rather eager to make such an agreement, fortune teller. Any particular reason?" She asked with doubt in her voice. Can't say I blame her, it does seem too good to be true. Then again, I have my own reasons why.
"Simply this. The balance of my world is moving too far to the side of 'good'. I need the scales to be tipped and chaos to enter my world. Currently, not even you alone could tip the balance of power. However, if you were to obtain this power, perhaps my own world will have the means to regain its balance. I like a tidy and easy to control universe. People will begin to notice me if not given a distraction, and things will become stagnant and dull if there is not enough chaos. You could even use this universe as a means to test your power there. I may even give you a shot at spreading your influence here."
"You make quite a bargain, fortune teller." Myzaraphiston said with a malicious grin as a contract and pen appeared in front of us. "But I believe we have a deal."
I take the pen in hand, reread the contract, then sign it, with Myzaraphiston doing the same not long after. "It is a pleasure doing business with you, Ms. Synderfell." Deciding to add a reminder to her mortality and for her lack of manners. I extended a hand to her and had the schematics in the other.
"That it is, fortune teller." Showing irritation as she took the schematics and shook my hand. "Let this be the beginning of a beautiful partnership."
Thus the partnership between the mistress of evil and I, the puppeteer of fate, was made. The Hands of Chaos was created soon after our deal was made. I'm sure Ms. Devil has plans of betraying me, much like I have to betray her. Not to mention she has likely made significant alterations to the schematics I have given her. I wonder how things will play out? One thing I know for certain is that this will certainly be entertaining.
It's good to be evil.
