Okay, my very first go at inking a sketch, I know there are bits that are terrible, however I am happy with the way the head turned out...Credit where it's due, since I can't draw for peanuts, I asked my good friend if he had any sketches I could have a go at inking, he said that he had this one of War Within Optimus Prime [link]
This was inked from a printed copy of the above sketch, using only a Sanford Sharpie Extra Fine Point marker

Inking is difficult. It took me a while to get into the way of how i do things now and even then there's still much for me to learn.
However the interesting thing is that inking used to be a necessary evil for me but now it's my favourite part!!
You biggest issue is what i call wobbly-line-syndrome! I suffer from it too but i think i am getting better. Which means that if you stick at it you'll do better too. I'll try and scan my pencils before inking so you can try inking them yourself.

Ooooh, WLS yes, that's it, and yeah, I knew that, some of the lines are good, some are bad. A lot of the shorter straighter lines are fine, but the longer curvier lines aren't...
The one thing I didn't mention was size... This was an A4 sized piece of paper...

Believe it or not the original sketch is on A4 copy paper.
I only started using larger bristol board after i started to look atways to improve my art.

True, practice makes better than sucky... My problem is finding sketches that appeal to me...

One way to practise is just to make very simple doodles and ink them, although they wouldn't be that appealing.

Only, stick figures are a bit too easy to ink

Then do complicated stick figures.
