Description This is the first cast of AJ's mane with an embedded paperclip piece in it. The result is exactly what I was aiming for.

You can see just a little bit of the paperclip on the top of her mane. The hat still comes off fairly easily (it wont support the weight of the whole pony) but if undisturbed, it stays on just fine.

I hope to be casting all AJ's manes this way as soon as I can get myself a small box of paperclips. In the meantime, I'll focus on problem-shooting Rarity's tail and trying to stockpile a few more of her kits...

So... the paper clip in the mane sticks to a magnet in her hat? Or is this a completely different system than the magnets you were talking about before?

Correct!

My first idea was to glue the paperclip into a groove that I have cut into the bottom of AJ's mane... you can see a bit of the groove in the picture on the right side... But, the mane is a bit too thick for the magnet to grab hold of the metal, and there isn't enough force for it to keep the hat held in place.

The two magnet system is really a half-assed fix to the above problem before I was able to get the embedded paperclip thing figured out...

I'm hoping that there will be enough people who want and AJ kit without magnets so that I can make those early casts disappear and not have to exhaust my supply of magnets giving away two at a time (I only have twelve of them). In the meantime, I'm going to try to cast a few more embedded manes and try to send out instead of the non-embedded...

I think you might have used too much paper clip. Just cut off a bit with wire cutters and that should work fine.

It really looks worse than it is. It's not sticking out of the mane, it just shows through the resin cast.

So paint would cover it up? Sweet!
